And if they hadn't... who knows what would have happened with hip-hop.

That song was historical.

It's really weird that this topic came up.

I have slots as a DJ at a station in Ann Arbor and I like to play a lot of old disco cuts, and I've been looking at footage of this for a little while...

Thinking of playing some of it over/under/before some songs.

Coincidence, ya'll.

I remember this qoute about Disco, i think it was Chuck D

He said the most artificial shit I ever heard," music that was "sophisticated, anti-black, anti-feel," not to mention gay, and upwardly mobile

Funny this how how i would describe Hip-hop now confused

It DOES. They keep sampling the Bee Gees, Chic and Donna Summer like crazy. Chuck D's comments have always rubbed me the wrong way.

I mean i can somewhat get the hate that disco was getting but damn Donna and the Bee Gees made some good stuff lol There music stood the time of time and I just don't think that this era will. No one is trying to be diffrent. I mean Donna took this so call genric genre Disco and keep on being diffrent from the crowd.

This song was very new-wavish too. It's a dancer. dancing jig

But yeah, tamewar, you're right. Donna's "disco" was and is timeless stuff. People still try to sing "Last Dance" as loud as they can. lol

In 1979,I was in my own little disco fantasy world lol I didn't pay attention to this "demolition night" or anyone who was going around saying "Disco sucks".The disco era was overwhelming to me....it was so much fun!

"Our Love" is a track from Donna's 1979 album 'Bad Girls'.Although it was never released as a single,it was a popular track in the discos back then.Actually, nearly all of the 'Bad Girls' album was played in the nightclubs.

cool I'm reading some of the credits from that album. Giorgio Moroder is the producer... looking him up, he seems to be a big influence on new age electronic music... and I saw Harold Faltermeyer listed! eek (Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun etc...) so some major electronic/synth guys worked with Donna Summer...

When I heard the first notes of that song... if I didn't know beforehand it was a Donna Summer song, I would have sworn it was a Yazoo track.

Yep,Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte were Donna's producers in the 70s.Alot of the music they produced for her was edgy and groundbreaking at the time, paving the way for what came later (techno, electronica, etc). If you like "Our Love",you should check out these other Donna Summer tracks:

"Lucky" (1979)
"Sunset People" (1979)
"I Feel Love" (1977)
"Now I Need You" (1977)
"Working The Midnight Shift" (1977)
"The Wanderer" (1980)
"Grand Illusion" (1980)
"A Runner With The Pack" (1981)

These are some of the more experimental songs that Moroder/Bellotte produced for Donna. If you love synths, you will like these songs.

nod Alot of Madonna's electronica music had to have been inspired by the stuff that Giorgio did with Donna.

hehe... listening to "I feel love" now... I immediately recognized the tune, but I had no idea this was a Donna Summer song. I think I always just assumed it was a Jean-Michel Jarre track or something... lol

great stuff.
