Old School R&B Song Of The Day(12/18/2002) Ta Mara And The Seen- Affection This was the second single released off of their debut album called Ta Mara And The Seen which was a fairly good record released in 1985. They came stormin out of the box with a great dance single "Everybody Dance". But this one is one of my favorite cuts off the album.
"All I want is to get to know you better..be together very soon"...me and you got this connection baby"... "All I want is affection...baby please no rejection" This album was produced by Jesse Johnson around the time where that Minneapolis sound was in full demand and you can surely hear LIL MAN's influence on this album.. This album is out of print..so if you see it, you might want to pick it up...enjoy!!!

Of course,"Tamara" is actually Margie Cox,who later recorded "Standing At The Altar" with Prince.

if you listen reeeal closely to Jessie's whisper after wailing on his guitar (I still can't figure out some of the things he was doing, and I've been playing 17 years. That brother was sooo bad) at the end of the song, you can hear the man (apparently also moved by his great playing) say:
"Don't f*** with me..." Classic!

On one of my Prince bootlegs,I have a rough demo by Jesse Johnson. It's just a drum beat with Jesse singing "Baby, you turn me up,baby you turn me up".This demo was recorded in 1983 during the recording of the 'Ice Cream Castles' album,if I'm not mistaken.
He later took that idea and developed the Tamara and The Seen track "You Turn Me Up". Does anyone else have this demo? It's usually lumped in with the '1999' era outtakes. [This message was edited Wed Dec 18 6:40:04 PST 2002 by DavidEye]

"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

"Burn Me Up" from Jesse's Second Album also had a Groove along those lines off those Demos.I have quite a few Jesse things around my Crib.this Cat can smoke Period. He later took that idea and developed the Tamara and The Seen track "You Turn Me Up". best Comment I Heard about Jesse Johnson was from Engineer Keith KC Cohen who also did Work with Prince. He said on Jesse doing the Cut He did for Paula Abdul's Debut Album that Jesse played a Wicked Keyboard Line with just two Fingers&He turned it out.on Axe Jesse is a Badd Ass.the thing that Hurt Him IMHO was the timing&all the SOund&Image Death by Musical Association.but anybody that has followed Jesse knows He was the real deal.when I see&Hear Blessed Unions of SOul,Hottie&The BlowFish,Lenny Kravitz,Ben Harper,&others Jesse Johnson did all of that&was also Groovin&the scary part the Cat wasn't even Brought up on the Funk. as for the Cut with Ta Mara aka Margie Cox it was Hitting. She was a Pre-cursor too me to Lisa Stansfield. She can Sing but again Association Killed off things for Her&the timing.everything that Prince&others try too make out of Nikka Costa is what Ta Mara had without all the Hype.I dug that first Album&the second one."BlueBerry Gossip" was a cool jam from there 2nd album as well."Don't f*** with me..." Classic! mistermaxxx
