Lauryn Hill - Mr.Intentional

This song moves me to my core....

Stuck in a system, that seeks to suck your blood
Held emotionally hostage, by what everybody does
Counting all the money, that you give them just because
Exploiting ignorance, in the name of love
Stop before you drop because that's just the way it was

'Nuff said.

The WHOLE set is too heavy,,,which doesn't surprise me the least bit why it didn't sit well with MANY people.

Its a shame because L-Boogie brought nothing but sincerity in that album.

Yeah it really is. I could relate to "Peace of Mind" in particular. I truly hope we get something from her, a new song at least. pout

That set didn't sit well with me, not because it was too deep. Sonically it was all just pretty dull and same-y. Yeah, it's a live, unplugged acoustic performance, but the music all ended up sounding the same when it was stripped back.

I did like almost all of the songs on an individual basis, though. And she sounded lovely, as you'd expect. 'cept for all that cryin' & shit. lol

Well she WAS trying them out for the first time, as she said, so I was prepared for it to be same-y. lol

music gonna make me dust this shit off lol. i wore it out when it first came out cool. sure, all the music sounded the same and her ramblings went on forever (sung or otherwise), but it was still so awesome to hear such a big r&b/hip hop singer do something like this and be so intimate and vulnerable and whatnot. whatever was going on in her head when she breaks down towards the end of i gotta find peace of mind, it suits it too well and really couldn't imagine it any other way touched. it sucks she's seemed to have gone further off the deep end, cuz she truly is an amazing artist and would love more tunes, even more stripped down, unfinished ones like these love.
life's a bitch, but god forbid the bitch divorce me...

I wonder how this project would have sounded if she had gone into a recording studio and recorded these songs with a producer and backing musicians? It might have been better received. There are some powerful lyrics in these songs.

i love this song, but the whole set tends to be annyoing after a while. To be honest, many songs sound quite alike and consist of the same three chords.

Nothing wrong with 3 chords songs, coz Doo Wop (That Thing) has most of the time two, even though they're no doo-wop chords, lol.

I like Lauryn. Honest.

But the set didn't sit well because it sounded like she took the same chords and progressions at the same tempo, swapped out lyrics and called them different songs. disbelief

But the chile can sing for days. She can sneeze better than most singers can wail.
