I don't get how Joe went on Larry King trying to seem credible only to go and blatantly lie about the abuse when everyone knows already? & saying that he and Katherine are still together doesn't help her custody case.

I don't think he was lying. Him and Katherine are technically still together since they're married still. And his definition of abuse is intentially hurting someone for no reason like back in the slave days like he explained lol

LOL. He's got to be joking. & he even went on to say that he doesn't know whether or not Michael ever spoke about the abuse like there aren't interviews of it not to mention there's a Jackson 5 movie about it. & he said that he wouldn't change what he did if he could do it over again. confused Poor Michael, no wonder he turned out so crazy.

MJ felt tortured by this old hag so he can take his slavery comment and shove it up his wrinkled black ass.

"I never beated my son."

He thinks because he didn't kill him that he didn't beat him and hurt him. Ooh if he was my daddy I'd be locked of for patricide. biggrin neutral

Lying about what? First, I wouldn't expect for any parent to admit that their own son was talking reckless about them lol So that was a stupid question from Larry. Second, abuse in my opinion is when a parent has the wrong intentions of hurting a child. We got to remember Joe is from the old school. It really isn't unusal for parents to discipline their children by being physical.Especially in black households (Sorry to bring race up) I don't know about most of you but I got my ass-whooped left and right growing (Damn African parents! lol) but I never thought for a second it was child abuse they just wanted me to grow up the "right way".

Most of you act as if you know Joe just because of what MJ said. I think Joe just raised MJ and his siblings the best way he could. He's product of his own upbringing.

I agree to some extent.

How come MJ was the only in his family who had the biggest problems, and Rebbie, Janet, Tito, Marlon, are doing fine for themselves today, and are not trainwrecks???

At some point, MJ lost his mind completely and was responsible for his own downfall.

Joe never told MJ to have plastic surgery over and over again

Joe never told MJ to allow kids to stay over at Neverland and make himself a vulnerable target.

Joe never told MJ to surround himself with the people he surrounded himself with who didn't have his best interests at heart.

Joe never told Mike to become a prescription drug addict. Mike never wanted to get proper rehab for his addiction problem. He just kept going at it for 25 years, and wanted only Yes-Man by his side.

You know what I think MJ took Joe's disciplinary ways the wrong way. He seems to be the only one shocken up by it (Nobody cares about Latoya says lol so I'm excluding her) The most reasonable Jackson (Janet Jackson) denied rumors that there was abuse in the Jackson family twice before. And just watching interviews of Joe and a few other siblings I think MJ was the one that was most sensitive to Joe's actions. In the Bashir documentry (though I think he was high through out lol)he basically contridicted himself. He said he didn't have it has bad as his other brothers, especially Marlon. MJ said that Joe would see him as the "golden boy" and insist that his brothers look at what he did and etc. I think that MJ's child abuse claims are fabricated! I don't think thats what was bothering him. I believe that it was just eating him up inside that he was making his father happy though out his life. MJ basically grew up doing everything his father said. And Joe drilled into his kids head to take nothing less then first place and he was a huge believer in perfectionism and MJ did just that! He was breaking and setting records year after year after year though it was nice to reach such accolades he was still doing what Joe wanted. I mean can you imagine a child growing up being told left and right you're doing something wrong? That's going to have some effect on the child's psyche to the point when someone teases them they feel like they failed and they need to fix whatever it is ( you know where I'm going with this, right?)

Sorry, I kind of rambled off lol
Carry on...

The other siblings acknowledged being hit by Joe and him not being the most affectionate father. Janet herself had distanced herself from Joe. I think the other boys too got married young just to get away from him. MJ was the most affected because he was the star and his success meant success for the rest of the family. Was Joe a product of his upbringing? Sure, so are most abusive parents.

He's getting no sympathy from me. hmph!

I'm not saying sympathize for Joe lol All I'm saying is that it's not unusual to get hit by a parent. And Janet hasn't distanced herself from Joe. They're actually close. And do you mind elaborating on the bolded?

The transcript of the Larry King interview is now up on the CNN site...
one thing I saw that I obviously missed when watching the interview...

here's their debate about the currency MJ would get paid in:

JACKSON: That meeting ended with me out there and shouting on the floor and talking to Larry Phillips about...

ROWE: Randy.

JACKSON: ...they wanted...

KING: Randy.

JACKSON: ...to pay him in U.S. dollars and I wanted him to get paid in pounds. And he said, by the time his tour starts, the U.S. dollar will be much more than the pound.

ROWE: Which was totally untrue.

JACKSON: And that's not untrue, because the U.S. dollar was never more than the pound. And they said they were going to straighten all this stuff out and get back with me. I never heard from Randy Phillips at all...

KING: Ok.

JACKSON: ...until I called him. And then when I called him and asked about all this stuff he said he never said that.

I'm confused why Joe was insisting MJ would get paid in UK pounds when most of his debt was probably in US dollars. Of course MJ might have made a profit if the pound would go up in value against the dollar, but he might just as well have lost some money with that kind of agreement as the pound has been rather unstable the past year or so.

I'm pretty sure that African Americans have the highest rate of domestic abuse within the family. They really shouldn't be so accepting of it imo. Anyways, you should read Michael's Oxford speech. Some quotes:

I would therefore like to propose tonight that we install in every home a Children's Universal Bill of Rights, the tenets of which are:

1. The right to be loved without having to earn it

2. The right to be protected, without having to deserve it

3. The right to feel valuable, even if you came into the world with nothing

4. The right to be listened to without having to be interesting

5. The right to be read a bedtime story, without having to compete with the evening news

You probably weren't surprised to hear that I did not have an idyllic childhood. The strain and tension that exists in my relationship with my own father is well documented. My father is a tough man and he pushed my brothers and me hard, from the earliest age, to be the best performers we could be.

He had great difficulty showing affection. He never really told me he loved me. And he never really complimented me either. If I did a great show, he would tell me it was a good show. And if I did an OK show, he told me it was a lousy show.

He seemed intent, above all else, on making us a commercial success. And at that he was more than adept. My father was a managerial genius and my brothers and I owe our professional success, in no small measure, to the forceful way that he pushed us. He trained me as a showman and under his guidance I couldn't miss a step.

But what I really wanted was a Dad. I wanted a father who showed me love. And my father never did that. He never said I love you while looking me straight in the eye, he never played a game with me. He never gave me a piggyback ride, he never threw a pillow at me, or a water balloon.

MJ was physically and emotionally abused. It just shows how callous Joe is when he won't say that he could have done better as a father. Michael forgave but the facts remain what Joe did played a large part in what ruined him.

Their used to be stories back in the day and granted no one will ever know how true they are if at all, that MJ was taking care of the family financially. When you look at individual success, it was MJ first, then Jermaine for a hot minute then Janet. Actually I would move Janet into the #1 slot for a period.

The other siblings just weren't earning as much as MJ, the most profitiable. For the time Joe was managing, he's getting paid and probably kicking some green to other family members. It's like that in many families where one kid is a star or the biggest star; the rest of the family lives off of what the star makes and shares. McCauley Culkin was the breadwinner for his family, Hanna Montana earns the dough in her family and so did Jessica Simpson and Keyshia Cole and so forth. I think Joe was the hardest on MJ because he didn't want the money to stop rolling in and therefore didn't want MJ to stop working. Working all the time, MJ had no childhood and probably wasn't treated like a son but more like an investment.

And why not talk about la toya? she's the prettiest daughter and what does Joe do? Sluts her out to that Jack Goldman character who he worked with. There's no way Joe didn't know what was going on with his daughter and that dude. And after all her crazy talk and turning on the family and making those ridiculous headlines she's right back in the fold. It's all crazy and it's all Joe. twocents

clapping great post. i like the idea of that children's bill of rights. poor mike. unfortunately the kind of father MJ wanted is probably only seen on TV most of the time.

So uh...while Joe is beatin' on his kids and trying to make them into musical sensations, was he an active JW? How come the JWs never schooled him on parenting or do they teach that spare the rod spoil the child bullshit? How come the JWs never encouraged Katherine to leave an adulterous and neglectful marriage in which her kids were not really safe?

Awwwwhhh come on nah! You can't blame Joe for everything. He didn't tell Latoya to go hump on Jack's leg like a dog in heat. Latoya is grown she can be with whomever she wants to. lol

Believe it or NOT all those Jackson's got a lil bit of GUTTER Joe Jackson in them... confused

I know I keep saying this but let me say it again. The only good thing about Michael's death is that now people are giving him the props they never did in life. No, not because he sold a gazillion albums (although that helps) but we are face to face with the reality that this man in retrospect cannot be seen as anything but a stone genius. Michael, they will never take that away, not the tabloids, the allegations, the "friends" giving interviews, the racists who hate you for being the biggest ever, no one can change that.

i agree. nod

Lying about what? Abuse in my opinion is when a parent has the wrong intentions of hurting a child.

My question is- Do you think Joe intentionally did all those things you mentioned? IMO he didn't. He's just a product of his own upbringing. Kind of like my dad.

Oh Really, Well I heard when Janet was married to James Debarge he attempted to commit suicide and jump out the window. Joe was right there telling him " Go ahead jump if you want to, I dare you to jump"!

I'm not saying sympathize for Joe lol All I'm saying is that it's not unusual to get hit by a parent. And Janet hasn't distanced herself from Joe. They're actually close. And do you mind elaborating on the bolded?

It's all crazy and it's all Joe. twocents

Ok, now you're just going off what the media says lol There's no indication that Joe was getting paid while MJ was cashing in as an adult! I know in the J5 days he was. So I guess that would make the whole family breadwinners. And this should've effected all of them.

falloff @ last paragraph
You're just blaming Joe for e v e r y t h i n g
That's just La toya's naiveness that got her into that mess. She was craving fame and fortune since she wasn't getting zip, zero, nada.
