I've Always loved Randy's writing -- especially this tune! From Randy and The Gypsys (1989) [A&M] The Love We Almost Had Luv U Honey (1989) ... [Edited 7/17/09 7:07am] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

I have Randy & the Gypsys album. I actually thought they had potential.
Luv U Honey was my favorite. I also liked Perpetrators and Gigolo which is funkier than 90% of the music out today. Remember an unknown Vivica Fox was in the Perpetrators video. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I liked Luv U Honey too, but I really liked the ballads and midtempo numbers on the album, because he got to show some range and exhibit compositional and instrumental skills...Brazilian jazz guitarist Ricardo Silviera makes a few nice contributions on the album, too.... BTw, I was wondering if Bryan Loren had an arrangement with A&M at the time --I noticed that a lot of their stuff from this period-- Sting's album, Nothing Like The Sun , Vesta Williams, and this one featured some of his tunes and/or production.... ... I love his slow jams from that album. If this was promoted, this could have been big. But I read that Randy was scared (don't know of success or failure?) At an A&M label promotion show, he was scared to come out and perform. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Wow @ scared to perform. Randy was really talented - excellent musician, instrumentalist and a good singer. He could have been another Prince. He played himself short. Self doubt killed his career? Sad. Great songs though.

Sad. Great songs though. Did he/the band ever go out and perform anywhere? I mean like on tour or BET or wherever at that time? I know he was absent from the 2300 Jackson promotion (or so I read) as they were released around the same time. PRINCE: Always and Forever

He could've been the next Prince! Well he was out years before Prince, so technically Prince was the first Randy Jackson. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I get the feeling that if he had not been Michael Jackson's lil brother, he would have made it big. He had the looks and the talent. Although I love Janet the performer, less face it she can't really sing. Randy had the whole package. Guess not enough room on the charts for another solo Jackson.

I agree with this sentiment all the way for I used to think the same thing. I thought it was cool that Randy's band image was somewhat Mazarati-ish and I bought the album largely because I was curious to see what Randy was bringing with this type of image. I dug the album and there was no reason why his solo stuff didn't blow up. His sound was definately in pocket with what was happening sound wise at the time. But yeah, he was much better than many of the other artists that were selling big numbers at the time. So yeah, by the lack of promotion, he was doomed. He did have the whole package and a serious track record from all of the tracks that he wrote with The Jacksons so yeah, the vibe was like "Nah, we can't have ANOTHER solo Jackson on the charts..That'll be TOO fucking much, wouldn't Bill?!". "It sure fucking would Stewart." [Edited 7/18/09 19:43pm] SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Not a great album, but "GIGOLO" and "PERPETRATORS" had a PRINCE/JESSE MPLS feel 2 em - IMHO, the ballads stood out, despite Randy's soft voice, MIKE or JERMAINE woulda torn em up!
RANDY = very good songwriter/musician, not a great singer un4tunately, altho', I still prefer his original "ONE MORE CHANCE" over JANET's version. [Edited 7/18/09 19:41pm]

[Edited 7/18/09 19:41pm] Exactly...there was no doubt that Randy was digging the MPLS sound and image. That was clear but Randy was and had been a strong songwriter and I thought his vocals were cool enough for the stuff he was doing. Hell, his vocals were stronger than Sir Casey's with MZ so u know....He sounded better than Keith Sweat's non singing ass and he blew up. Lack of promotion. Yeah, he was definately worth a couple more 'solo' albums, his "SHE" track from 2300 JACKSON ST was a standout.

Love this song, never heard it so clear. Extra guitar part and his voice sounds way better. This should have charted higher than #81 on the charts. Also, why has this never been released on a Jacksons album. This should be one one of there best of's or the recently re-released Destiny. PRINCE: Always and Forever
