Michael, in a sense covered this too. "The Manhattan Transfer's" song, "Spice Of Life", is the exact same song....watch.

While this was a TV performance, listen to their backing track. It is the exact same melody as "Baby Be Mine".

actually it was Michael's song first, it didn't make the Thriller album.

Rod Temperton wrote it.

Michael's demo is probably somewhere waiting to be heard.

Really!! I didn't know? I did hear that it was supposed to be given to Anita Baker.

As for the band covering "Baby Be Mine". The horns and vocals sound cool, but imo the keyboards don't put that extra jellypunch into the mix. I don't feel that part that much in there, while the keys/synths are an important part of this jam.
I practised it on keys for sometime with a band including another keyboard player, and we tried to add a full synth sound to the whole vibe.

Speaking of Anita Baker....her 1986 song "Mystery" was originally offered to Michael Jackson for 'Thriller'.It's another Rod Temperton composition.

If given a choce between "Baby Be Mine" or "Spice Of Life",I think Michael should have chosen the latter.Besides, the album always has "The Girl Is Mine" lol

Rod Temperton really wrote some great songs for Michael and others. I cannot imagine "Off the Wall" or "Thriller" without his contributions.

The keyboard players facial expressions was hilarious.

i honest thought that this was a joke when i watched it.

It's interesting to note that "Baby Be Mine" is the only NON-HIT on 'Thriller'.It's one of only two songs that wasn't released as a single, but the other song ("Lady In My Life") still gets airplay on Quiet Storm stations and back in the day,R&B stations played it regularly. This leaves "Baby Be Mine" as the odd, forgotten track that didn't get as much attention as the other 8 songs on the album. As hot as MJ was in 1983/84,it would have easily became a Top 10 hit,if released as a single.

I always liked this tune....I love how they go "all the tiii..." and kind of cut off on purpose just for the FUNKINESS of it. It was one of the first tunes I ever memorized.

It has a great melody ...it comes on great after Wanna Be Starting Something.

I think this was supposed to be a "Rock With You" pt. 2 the way the drums come on. The songwriting is great..the live drums with the snares are great. The girls in the background add a little class to the track. I think I might have to listen to this one again on break.
