New MJ Song? 'A Place with no Name'
sorry, but the link's in German. http://www.bild.de/BILD/u...oeren.html The song -- "A Place with No Name" -- sounds similar to the song "A Horse with No Name" released by the group America back in 1971. We're told several years ago America's manager gave his group's permission for Jackson to record the song, "A Place with No Name" -- despite the similarity. America's current manager, Jim Morey, who was also Michael's manager in the late 80's and early 90's, tells us, "The band was honored that Michael chose to do their song and they hope it becomes available for all Michael's fans to hear." It's unclear when Michael recorded the song. [Edited 7/17/09 3:49am]

I'm guessing that this song was recorded in the mid-90s,probably for 'HIStory.

It sounds quite recent to me. Even tho it's a snippet I liked it right away but then I've always loved Horse With No Name. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

"A Horse With No Name" is one of my favorite 70s soft rock songs It's so warm and melodic.I can see why Michael liked that song.

Same here. I looked yesterday, and youtube is full of videos of the "full version" of this song. That translates to 3 minutes of the above sample repeated.

I didn't know the Horse song but I like it.

I am totally loving it. Hearing MJ´s angelic voice in a new piece of music has always been the coolest thing for me. He can do harmonies like noone else. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

well, it's a rework, I guess. I like it, but I also like the original. So I would say, nice sung, but not MJ at his most original.

So I would say, nice sung, but not MJ at his most original. thats why it was unreleased....who knows what he was really going to give us or not. Maybe he was going to scrap everything all together and do another type of album...I cant wait for all the unreleased music to come. Fans holding that demo of Baby Be Mine need to be releasing some stuff NOW Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I don't know how anyone can judge the song from hearing only 25 seconds
I do believe that the song has potential. Hasn't the full version leaked yet? MICHAEL JACKSON

i like the original quite much. Is it well known in America? I never heard it, but it has nice chords and is well written.
Btw, whatever happened to the OTW 30t anniversary edition? They HAVE to release one. With bonus songs. People would buy this like bread.

I do believe that the song has potential. Hasn't the full version leaked yet? well, what great surprises do you expect? It's basically a rework of that old song. And by that snippet of course you can judge whether or not tenors can reach the notes.

It's a classic, one of several number ones by the band America. They were popular in the 70s and even into the 80s. Purple Rain took its name from a line in their song Ventura Highway (some say, others disagree). They're one of the best of the folk pop groups, and a favorite of mine. ... 150 songs from the past couple of years There are more....and that's not counting the Motown vaults "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
