Singers whose voices have changed and your thoughts

Here's my list...

Marianne Faithful- I guess when she first started out her voice was much softer but damn it got rough after years of smoking and possibly drugs??
Debbie Harry - I love her but i'm not digging how her voice has changed over the years.
Michael Jackson - This is debateable. Did his voice change? I was noticing on "blood on the dancefloor" album his voice definitely sounds grittier but i wasn't sure if it had changed or he's just singing rougher. I don't have a problem with it though. R.I.P.
Mariah Carey - Lots of people have being saying her voice has gotten worse. i don't really hear a differnce I think her singing style has just changed.

Any others???

I would add Luther Vandross to that list. I noticed on his last album that his voice had a much different tone.

I feel Jacksons voice changed after "we are here to change the world".

Bob Dylan (for the better in some ways)

Joni Mitchell's voice has gone from soprano to alto through the decades. Age and cigarettes don't play. lol

Her voice in more recent years carries the authority of a woman who's lived life and has certain proclamations to make. I do enjoy it, but it is definitely less versatile and uplifting and carries a more jaded affect than her younger voice.

Prince - his voice just keeps getting more nasal.

Mariah Carey - she certainly cannot hold notes for long periods of time anymore, hence the 'ooh.ooh.ooh-oohs' but I sort of like her voice a lot more now hmmm It's less screamy lol

Christina Aguilera - I do think her voice has changed since she started out. It's gotten SO much better. I know some parts on the Back To Basics DVD are dubbed but DAMN eek

That's all.

You guys still buy Prince albums LOL. Sorry, couldn't resist. Iam a huge fan, but he's been average as hell since "rainbow children". Going through the motions as it were. True, I dont own anything post "TRC", but from what I have heard, the tracks are just boring and "been there before" sorta thing. Passion is gone. Heck, he had a brilliant creatively, but he needs to seriously downsize his output and just take a break for a few years or something. Refreshed and all that.

Sorry, not related I know.

Brother needs something major in his life to happen LOL. Kids, breakdown, mid life crisis etc... Mean i know, but when bad (or good) things happen to artists in their lives, they write and sing about it, and thats when good shit can happen. For example, "Emancipation" was good for the most part probably because Mayte was expecting. New passion and all that....

Thats just an idea. But he really needs a long ass break.

hmmm Interesting. I haven't been able to put a finger on just what in his voice has come to annoy me, but I think that might be it.

Thank God "rainbow children" came along. It was far from perfect, but compared to "rave" and "new power soul", it was a God send.

Madonnas voice has changed. It's just not good anymore. I know the joke is she has never been able to sing, but I loved her voice before singing lessons and loved it even more during the ray of light/music era. Around American Life is when she started sounding horrible. Just dead boring. She lost that spark that actually made her voice good even if it wasnt conventionally good.

Compare his voice from the early Smiths albums to his solo work, and it's clear his voice has become richer, and much more musical.

He kind of yelped before, now he's a crooner cool

Most singers who have been around for 15 years or longer, their voices have changed.

I only have a problem with his voice on Planet Earth, I don't know what happened on that album, there were some cool songs on it but his singing on tracks like Guitar, Lion Of Judah and Resolution really bothered me.

sad I will never understand why singers pick up cancer sticks. Their voices are their meal tickets and if you destroy you meal ticket then what? Just doesn't make any sense to me...never will disbelief

definitely. There's a shade of cynicism in her voice now. I prefer her voice during the glory years of '73-'79 or so, where it wasn't quite the high pixie voice anymore, but not Lucille Ball either

mushy Agreed. I'm excited and a little nervous about her upcoming album because she's going the techno/dance route and techno oftentimes does alot of voice altering, but Christina knows her voice is important so I know she won't go crazy with altering it...I hope anyway. *crosses fingers*

Yeah, luckily for us, we have an artist like Prince who doesn't really have to solely rely on just his voice to carry a song. He could have a song of him just rocking out on guitar, drums, the piano and just a chorus (like 'Loving Cup' mushy ...love it!) and I wouldn't have a problem with it. nod

Maxwell's voice has changed, but he's made it work which I think is a big problem with alot of singers. They still try to sing in their old registers even though they know they can't do it anymore and it really hurts the music. Honestly, I'm more amazed by singers whose voices don't change because everyone's voice changes as they age...it's a part of the life process unfortunately.

nod Same goes for Britney Spears. I've seen old video footage of her when she was a child and her voice was good...nothing great, but nice. Now, due to all those cigarettes and having a voice that never was very strong to begin with, she has to do all that voice altering otherwise people wouldn't buy her music. That leaked song called 'Baby boy' or something like that was just awful...that's probably why it will never be on any of her albums ever. God, it was terrible. disbelief Listening to that song really made me scratch my head as to why this girl was making millions of dollars selling music. omg They should play that song on all those 'Truth' anti-smoking commercials so kids will know why you should never pick up a pack of cigarettes.
