Best Buy is possibly the Worst Music Store...oh wait they arent a Music Store

First off, regardless of who is the leading seller of MUSIC, walmart,Best buy or Target NONE of these stores are music stores, they are retail outlets that HAPPEN to just carry music that they think U should have.

Why am i getting on "Best Buys" case, well for many reasons, but most importantly their stock limitations. I know times are tough and blah blah blah. But give me a break, know how to do your buying and dont totally eliminate something especially a new release in this day and age. Also this IS NOT a labels decision whether a store gets a cd, its the buyers for that company, and trust me, Best Buys, Buyers have their heads up their asses. Case in Point...

THE JAYHAWKS new cd, comes in a Limited Anthology 2 cd 1 dvd edition or a One Disc Version. Well Best Buy decides it wont carry the limited it will carry the one disc version and maybe stock 2. First this is dumb, mainly because any band that has a CATALOG and following, the fans want the limited not the one disc. Also not all locations will carry it.

LISA LISA new cd, only ONE NYC best Buy will stock it and it had 1 copy!! She is only from NYC, playing in NYC and living in NYC, but lets stock 1 copy.

Now these arent chart topping artists today, but at the same time, they arent unknown and they both have followings and websites that tell fans where to go to get their CDS.

I guess Best Buy was to busy buying 800 copies of the new CAMRON cd that had so much dust on them i thought the fucking guy had a wig on. Lets get real again, the bullshit is over. Just another note, it looks like alot of the best buys i have seen are almost pulling out full artists in their stores, walk into the 44th and 5th location, and browse the RB section, one Luther cd, two stevie cds, 900 keri hilson cds.

complaining about best buy neglecting its music department is a bit like complaining about campbells not putting enough pork in their cans of pork & beans. it's just one of those steady declines that we all have to work around. comfort

ha! you ought to see what one of the nearby Borders has recently done to their music section... it's completely gutted and crammed into a space that's roughly 1/4 of what it used to be. disbelief

the borders near me is closed. sad

i'm just used to that...if it's a place to buy books or music, i don't put much stock in it staying around for long.

that would be really sad. where will people go to waste time before movies in that area? it's bad enough that virgin megastore is gone.

Luckily, in NYC 3 stores have survived for the most part, Rebel Rebel, Other Music, and Record Runner, outside of that there is Best Buy, but they are having some issues financially, and the music departments are being downsized 80% oveerall, i guess to make room for all those CamRon and Ryan Leslie CDS i saw today. Thank God someone in OTHER MUSIC had the brains to order the JayHawks 2cd 1dvd edition, shit,i'll pay the extra cash for these kinds of stores who still have a clue.

Exactly. Best Buy carries a lot more titles online than in store.
I like Manifest Records in the Carolinas. They have a website powered
by Spun.com. Anytime i want to order some older cd's i purchase through
them. They have a huge warehouse in Florida and Chicago. I also purchase
used vinyl at Manifest.

The Walmart in my town never keeps the music section organized. People just don't seem to know how to put the CD back in the right section,so when you go looking for a CD it's like a game of see if you can find what your looking for. I told my sister once, you should get a prize if you can find it. lol

The only other place in town that carries music, is a only music store, but there prices are pretty steep. I just can't see paying $15 to $17 for a single CD,which is why I now do most of my music shopping on the internet. Amoeba even has a mail order now. biggrin

nod Same here... it took me awhile to go there but...
Though I enjoy hitting some of the Mom & Pop stores that remain. I don't have the time to shop like that, so buying music over the net it my main option.

I would love it if I could always buy my music from a music shop, but sadly the one good one that we had here in town is no longer here. So if I want to have that experience I have to travel 2 hours.

those are all basically there still, Bleecker bobs is there but i hate that place just because of the way they file shit, under first name!! Sounds is there but is almost always empty, but you still can get a good buy and find there. Downstairs records is gone so i hear, never really dealt with them though, Revolution is still there as is the one on Bleecker that has the guy running it who worked in Revolution.

Best Buy carries nothing but the most extremely popular in both new and old music. They have very little good stuff on the shelves because of all the worn out shit.

Even if they had more good stuff, I still prefer to spend my money in a local owned record store because big business is the reason music in general is so fucked up these days.

In NYC we've lost Tower, HMV, and now Virgin in the last 5 years. All we have left is J&R Music World (an excellent store BTW). But it's hard to believe New York now has only one full stock all genre music store...very sad

For new music, I still like Best Buy. They're local and their prices in the first week of release are really good ($9.99 CDs). But I agree, they don't carry a lot of anyone's back catalog.

New releases and greatest hits are their specialty.

So today I went into Walmart to get a cable cord to set up my TV,and I walked into the music section to look for a CD,and my jaw hit the floor. They had rearranged it,and the CD's were stocked, and there were DVD's that I had never seen available there before. I was in shock! It was also a little weird considering that I had just been complaining about this, and poof! there fixing it. woot!
