Howlin' Wolf

You know, they called us "coons" - said we didn't have no sense.
You gonna wake up one morning, and a coon's gonna be the President.

From Coons on the Moon...

...The Back Door Wolf (Howlin' Wolf's final studio album - 1973)

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

...How Many More Years

...Smokestack Lightning

...Spoonful

...Shake For Me

...Down In The Bottom

...Little Red Rooster

...Dust My Broom

...Don't Laugh At Me

...May I Have A Talk With You

...Highway 49

...I'll Be Back Someday

Watching the Ovation TV special on him the other night reminded me of how great he was.

A friend of mine was telling me about Ovation TV. They recently wrapped up a week long celebration of black music icons, right?

watched Cadillac records recently and was greatly disappointed in the way his scenes were written. i love me some Muddy, but i'd much rather have the movie focus on Howlin' than Muddy. though, that scene about Muddy stealing his guitar player was true.

Tsss. we both have the same last name, and i feel it in my bones that we're related somehow. f' what the family tree says.

i might get corrected on this, but i think this is a good place to start.

it's a nice intro, plus i'm more of a delta blues type guy than Chicago blues.

This one on Chess (1962)...

...has many of his classic original recordings.

I saved a funny picture of the dude:

It's from that documentary. Apparently Wolf loved to joke around and act a fool on stage. lol He scolded Son House in this performance for being too drunk (Son can be heard in some parts balking at several people in the audience).

yeah, this clip was shown in the HW documentary, but it's actually from a release titled Devil Got My Woman.

A must see for any blues fan! Skip James performance is probably one of the most haunting performances i've ever seen.

Oh, and Son was mad because he drank up all of his whiskey and Howlin' wouldn't give him any of his. lol
