Actually, Mos Def was an actor before he was a rapper.

Yea, Mos has his foot firm in 2 areas & he's to be respected, imo. He actually TRIES to be & IS a good actor. It's not even like all of the rapper/actors or singer/actors are bad, but some clearly don't deserve the opportunities they get b/c they get onscreen & don't even make an effort. Reminds me of a quote from Ice Cube (who's decent at times but I'll admit to being like whofarted when that mf got a 3 pic deal!), here's what he had to say about acting:

"I'm not they type of actor who is trying to do a whole bunch of different shit, you know what I mean?"

lol & they can't stop handing this mf $ to make whatever the hell he wants, it's comedy! Everything has it's place, but I can't respect someone who has no respect for the art (& yes, it is an art) in which they're dabbling...

nod Co-sign. If they aren't going to give 100%, than they need to go home and sit down. Half-assing is neither cute nor acceptable to me. Really, at times, I see it like when rich people get upset if something doesn't go their way and they have the audacity to utter that ridiculous line: "Do you know who I am?". Man, let anyone come up to me with that shit and I will totally make them cry. Mofo, I don't give two shits who you are unless you want to drop a couple grande in my hand and then maybe I'll pretend to care otherwise kiss my luscious ass. I don't tolerate bad attitudinal problems from nobody. Period.hmph!

nod Man, the part where he's sitting on the floor with the dog that died after they tried doing the surgery and he was just holding the dog and crying....dude, dude; I am not ashamed to say that cried like I was 3 years old...still do whenever I see that part. He was just phenomenal in that film...absolutely outstanding. bow There have been few made for TV films that have made me cry and this is one of them. Two other ones were:

'Introducing Dorothy Dandridge', which I think Halle was outstanding in (still upset that she won the Oscar for that god-awful film 'Monster's Ball' because she was 100 times better in 'Losing Isaiah' than in that monstrosity, but that's just my opinion); and,

'Holiday Heart' with Ving Rhames and Alfre Woodard. Outstanding film that still makes me cry everytime I watch it. He deserved the award that he won for that film. Extraordinary acting all around...just spectacular. touched

DesireeNevermi
nd

"If you're a singer not an actress, you should sing. If you're a rapper, you should rap," is what actress Nia Long told the U.K. magazine Pride."

So no love for the multi-talented tripple threat types? eek

""I didn't see 'Obsessed,' so I can't comment, but it's just not about how talented you are anymore. It's about, 'How much box-office revenue will this person generate?' When you see certain people – we won't name names – they just don't have the skill, and no one in their team has said, 'You need acting classes,'" Long replied."

Sounds like some hateration here. Barbara Streisand was a singer/actress and so was Dorothy Dandridge, Diana Ross (nominated for an oscar I believe) and Sammy Davis Jr and Elvis Pressley.

"The 38-year-old actress, who last starred on the ABC series 'Big Shots,' does believe there have been some exceptions in Hollywood."

checking herself. falloff

""If you take time to develop your craft, God bless you. Jamie Foxx is an example of both [actor and singer]," she added. "

What? No mention of Will Smith? whofarted

Long also vented to the glossy about the quality of roles Hollywood offers Black actresses.

""If you were able to take all the Black actresses and the choices we've made collectively, it's a pure reflection of what you see on film. People need to work. But the content? The opportunities for Black actresses are more widespread today, but the quality has suffered," she offered."

So then take it up with the black writers, producers and directors. She just mad cuz the Boyz N The Hood days are gone. hmph!

I think Nia is talking jealous bulls**t. Why can't you be an actor and singer/rapper. I personally enjoy watching them. My favourites are Ludacris, LL Cool J and Aaliyah.
