Even the worst of both, songwise, 'Graffiti Bridge; Vs 'Heal The World', both Schmaltzy and horribly cheesey, but most of the world got MJ's sentimentality and structually it was a better song.
About time folks realised we have wasted a lot of money on Prince, a lot of mediocre albums with a couple of great songs do NOT equal greatness. Michael didn't do a lot in the latter part of his career, but i'd take 'Butterflies' and 'Whatever Happens' over anything Prince has deemed fit to pull out of his ass recently.

I understand the defensiveness but let's be real. I can't you believe you picked a song that Prince didn't deem good enough to release, and 'this is not music' was a b-side. Oh the irony! Could easily pick some obscure MJ songs myself ('Blues Away', 'This Place Hotel' and 'Be Not Always' etc) Mike could compose a song as well as ANYBODY. No defensiveness or sentimentality here, that's just the way it is.

Why is it always a comparison? Both of them are talented. One might be more talented than the other in certain fields of music. Out of curiosity, what kind of awards/accomplishments have Prince received?

Should we only count Prince's albums solo without the Revolution or NPG? no? thought not. Can't have it both ways. Mike was a brilliant artist, fully deserving of the accolades being thrown his way right now, and he really liked his fans, Prince is alive, and seemingly detests his fans, whatever colour or persuasion, he hunts a way to upset his fans, either tracking them on the net or releasing his new albums. Mike's fans never attacked him like P's do, that's for sure.

I think this thread proves that neither Prince fans or MJ fans are rational.

Prince is a beast on performing with the guitar, but he will never be able to have the stage presence MJ had.

MJ had hella soul as a kid and something got lost when he grew up. The way he sang as a kid is not the way he sang as an adult. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

If you're calling me irrational, I'm very very pleased These types of debates are pointless. Talent is a matter of opinion and record sales do not equal greatness.

Well that's your opinion, i've alway maintained that i enjoyed MJ's voice the most in 76, 77, 78 and 79, before he got to into his signature vocal sounds, we all know what they were. Despite that, couple of posts back was an interesting one. Stage presence, Mike owned Prince, no matter how good Prince was musically, never could work a crowd into a frenzy like Mike, that will be proved with his future legacy DVD releases.

Rick James was the only one that could ever come close to Prince and it was always "Prince vs. Rick James" before the pop world discovered Prince and then it became "Prince vs. Michael Jackson" simply because they are both black and both feminine. But that's all they have in common. Prince and Rick were the two wild badasses of R&B with the badass albums coming each year and the protegees also. Andy is a four letter word.

It's funny people always wanna bring up the well Micheal sold more records then Prince, and was more popular to the masses then Prince, but they never say he was better then the Beatles or Elivs. Those are the ones he should be compared with not Prince . why in God's name do u wanna make me cry

You can't compare them at all!
One has more strengths then the other and vice versa. MJ was a great entertainer. Prince is a GOD!
