Well, clearly it folded, as magazines often do.

Everytime I went to the store,I would rush to the the magazine rack to find the latest issue of those magazines One thing I really liked about Rock And Soul....at the end of each issue, they had song lyrics to all the popular R&B songs.

They did, though didn't they??? And often it would be a really interesting mix of black music too! I could remember months where they would have lyrics from Prince's controversy album, maybe something like Cameo, Motown's oldies cuts, and then something alternative from Joan Armatrading

I just pulled out a few of my old issues I got one from 1986,one issue from 1987 and one from 1988.I also have a summer 1986 'special issue' devoted to Prince and his proteges!
The 1987 issue includes an article on the Jets. This was right before the release of their second album 'Magic'.The article mentions that they are working on a movie for Disney (a sci-fi musical),solo albums by several members,an animated cartoon, and another movie I guess since the second album wasn't a huge success, those other projects were cancelled.

Well I am trying to build a collection of this mag via ebay. It really was a better mag than Right On or Black Beat. I was just trying to figure out what year it folded. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I am pretty sure they are not on wikipedia. THe publisher was Charleston and I believe they did a couple of other black themed mags in the 80s, but I can't remmeber which ones. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I think it was better than 'Right On' but it was on the same level as 'Black Beat'.Both of these mags had alot of exclusive info on new album projects, which I liked. How's your collection coming along? Did you buy up alot of issues yet?

They ran out of people worth reporting about?

rock died. soul died.
why would you need a magazine to cover something that doesn't exist any more?

You know what? I remember that I had this issue back in the day
[/quote] It includes a Rick James interview where he totally TRASHES Prince and even disses Vanity 6 ("there's no talent there'). The Rock & Soul interviews were much more provocative and candid than the boring interviews we saw in Right On! magazine.I recall a Rock N' Soul interview with Vanity from 1985.She made it very difficult for the male interviewer, lol. When he got to her hotel room to interview her,she was watching a porno movie, shouting things like "You go girl...ride that thang!"

I think he's pointing out that, the artists that are featured are mostly "soul" artists, not rock
