Frank Zappa I've never been a big fan of Zappa, but recently I've rediscoverd some of his old hits and I honestly must say the man made great music and was a terrific guitar player.
At first hearing his music always seems absurd and a bit silly to me, covered in sarcasm with lots of diddly doo bridges and other nonsense, but after closer listen the absurd melodies are actually pretty good and the sarcastic lyrics dead on it. What strikes me the most tho' is his talent for crossing over and his fabulous guitar playing. That's just FINE. Some say Prince is a master in mixing rock and funk, but I have to say Zappa did it way before and with a savoir fair that is hard to match. Rock and roll, blues, funk, soul and then some more. He threw it all in a bowl and made a great soup out of it. And then that guitar... Dude knew how to rock that thing and improvise the hell out of it. Dirty Love, My guitar wants to kill your mama, Muffin Man. I wish he was still alive, so I could see how he treated that baby of his. Frank Zappa. Master!

Yeah, I agree. Zappa was way ahead. Listen to the lyrics to 'I'm the slime'. Written in 1973. If it was that bad then, then today it's ...
I sometimes wish Prince had more of Zappa's additude about him. Prince takes himself to serious at times and should laugh more about himself and the world around him. They both have a great sense of humour but with Zappa you hear it in the music a lot more.

Gotta agree with you there, Prince could laugh a little more about himself and the world around him, but Zappa could have been a little buit more serious every now and then.
