Most musicians from that era can play, quite well at that, they just never show it. Otis Redding, Sam Cooke played guitar, but you'd never know it. Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams from the Tempts are well trained musicians, but Motown wouldn't let them play a lick

but why they didn't let them play?
Marvin was good drummer and piano player but he could display that on his albums and live shows ,why not other bands.
i know that all guitars on Belle album was played by Al green

It's Motown, if your name wasn't Smokey, Marvin or Stevie you ain't doin' ain't doin' jack, but they all could, hence you had artist on Motown like Isleys, Gladys and the Pips, J5, Four Tops ect leave the label.

judging by what i know abou Al greens guitar playing i dare to say that guitar player in this cover of Temptations song "I cant get next to you" is Al Green himself.
And Al Green is playing tasty fuzzed guitar solo listen:

The times I saw Mr. Green in concert (73 -75) he would played guitar, acoustic and sometimes electric.
