Ohio Players or Slave?

For me, it's tough. I love Steve Arrington's voice and only like the songs he sung lead on. But I like the Ohio Players overall body of work better, although I am not fond of the lead singer's voice

Both bands are my musical textbook and I grew up on all their music, but I'll give the edge 2 Ohio 'cause I saw them THROW DOWN live at the 2003 3 Rivers Music Festival in Columbia,SC. Unfortunatley Slave like a lot of funk bands have fallen victim to in-fighting so now you got two bands "Slave" (Mark Adams, Danny Webster) and Marc "Drac" Hicks and "The New Slave".

Slave had some great jams and could get the party started. Drac was the man on guitar. "Volcanic Eruption" is right up there with "Maggot Brain"..But I love the Ohio Players' ballads. And LeRoy is my man.

Some of the members from Slave are from myhometown but I'm going with the boys from Southern Ohio.

I thought Ohio Players were from Dayton too? They're litteraly family 'cause Ralph "Pee Wee" Middlebrooks is either Mark Adams' or Mark Hick's uncle.

Nah I'm not bent out of shape, just a little surprised.

And P even said "they come in all colors". Actually I need to STOP using the word myself.

Apparently nobody here on these boring, cliquey boards watches The Chappelle Show. Cheese and crackers you guys take yourselves so seriously.

I stand by my initial post - I'll take the more [N word snip - luv4u] band.

The mods don't go for word like that around here.

And, yes, I have been forced to watch Dave...and no, I'm not a big fan of his.

The mods don't support the First Amendment?

Besides, I was just joking - I'm pretty sure the mods know that I'm an invaluable contributor to these zany boards.

I know you were joking, but it's in bad taste around here. Read the rules, everyone gets reprimanded occasionally for breaking them.

But bad taste is the norm around here. And bad taste is wholly subjective.

That being said, I'd rather listen to Mandrill than either of the bands in question. Out of the three, Mandrill released the more stronger albums consistently than the others.

NONSENSE

Players are much better IMHO. 1st concert I saw as a child, 2nd James Brown, 3rd Parliament, Funkadelic, Parlet, & Horny Horns. Believe it or not, before my teenage years in the 8os

It was slick for that time period. Just like the box hair cut and those
loud ass shiny suits new jackers were wearing in the 90's, people now
see that shit as
cheese

Both bands are tight as hell. Sorry can't choose.

Guess you can tell by my avatar which one I'm goin' with.... lol

All respect to the 'Players', because they were the Original blueprint for Midwest Monsterfunk, but they Never made me feel the way That Slave did-- that really raw funk--Everytime I hear Slide, Stone Jam, Just Freak, Never Get Away, Sizzlin Hot, Party Lites--My Jaw still drops.....and Mark Adam's basslines still make me stop what I'm doing, listen and groove....just my opinion.....

(btw, I Hate that Warner/Atlantic had all the Slave stuff removed from youtube)
