This guy more talent than every one mentioned in this thread:

Vocally and Musically. Stoke is a skilled drummer, plays guitar and
keyboards as well. IMO his band is the best artist to come out of
the 90's.

Agree with this. You can never underestimate Mint Condition's talent. And, the ante is upped ten-fold at live shows. Just a fantastic band, while still popular, simply isn't accorded the more widespread acclaim which I think they deserve. But, that's just my opinion.

It's the opinion of many. Great band that is unfortunately playing
in the lil wayne era.

Yeah i don't follow that one either bro.
Saying D'Angelo is a better vocalist than Stokley is
definitely a joke for the ages.

Amazing isn't it?

Women may be biased because of the "Untitled" video... lol lol lol

Yes they are.. Women are lead by the flesh too..

Some just don't want to admit it.

I don't care about certain topics like this anymore, but I commented because I have had similar discussions in the past with sistas (not necessarily about D'Angelo). I laughed a bit while reading some of this debate.

Some sistas will become very angry and hostile while "defending their heart-throbs". lol lol lol

I can have a discussion with brothas all day about female entertainers because brothers will admit that "She ain't that good, but she is fine...".

I'm very late to this thread but hell no he's not a musical genius.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I think he is heads above a lot of singers these days. Maybe he and Maxwell are comparable, but I am not sure, since I have never really favored Maxwell's music. I think D could become a serious musical force, a legend if he gets his shit straight. Genius, I think compared to what is going on now, yes. Compared to P, no, because I don't think D was a child prodigy, but not all geniuses are child prodigies

I'm confused. Right now? D has not released a cd in 9 or 10 years.
He is effectively retired.

Nah. Same reason Laurynn Hill aint in my genius book.

Can't tell by just 2 albums....or in her case 1

ThreadBare

He's a great singer and a decent writer and performer. I like his arrangements of other people's songs. Like Prince, he melds his influences and wields the results well.

Unlike Prince, he is not a genius.

Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Jonatha Brooke -- these are geniuses to me.

D'angelo? Not quite. But that doesn't mean he's not good at what he does.

Prince, MJ, Mozart, and Teddy Riley, to name a few, have been mentioned. I guess if you're referring to his peers-- D'Angelo, Maxwell, R. Kelly, and Al B. Sure!-- I'd give you that.
