D got messed up on drugs is what happened

I don't care why. We all have our opinions and in mine he just isn't a very good singer and his songs don't really move me. His music was cool, something I'd leave on if it was playing but beyond that.... shrug

Voodoo was genius. I'd really love to see D put out some shit as he ages. The older the better. Hell, we could have another true old-school-type soul artist on our hands--not some 19-year-old douchebag who doesn't know hardship from his asshole whose tunes are aimed solely at tykes.

No. His vocal arrangements may be works of genius, but he's not a genius.

Could someone explain to me what "arranging" means in musical parlance

It's simply how you piece together a composition. What I mean by D'Angelo's vocal arrangement is how he tracks his main vocals with self-harmonizations, counter-melodies and ad libs. He took a big chunk out of Prince's method of arranging vocals and took it to outer space.

In my estimation, D is a master musician. Possible heir apparent to P. Seen his clips with Clapton? Prince's former manager thinks very highly of him as well. Forget his name.

Judge him based upon available content and not by quantity alone.

D is unique; seems to have a 'self-correcting' voice. Hardly, if ever hits a 'wrong note'. He is also a multi-instrumentalist.

In my opinion, D'Angelo and Eric Benet are the top tier vocalists....

PS

Good look' for the shout out for Frank M. I had never heard of him. Niiiiice!

I believe he is a musical genius but his personal problems have limited his output of work.

What is a counter melody?
re him not hitting a wrong note-if he did, he would just fix that in the studio, right?

Hey Script
I was speaking in terms of his live performances. His vocal progressions are damn near flawless....

I wouldn't say he's a genius unless you'll consider R.Kelly a genius as well lol

Thanks for clearing that up, free. But what is a counter melody? Is flawless vocal progression god given or can it be learned?

Pedophilia aside, Kells was a musical genius. He was...

He really does an incredible range and very musically, I was convinced he was really after hearing the "R" album (his last best album in my opinion), but after that he started watering his quality down for the radio play and records sales to appeal to the new generation of young listeners - and I hate how eve he flipped his style and started doing that rap-singing shit. He should make more songs like "Touched A Dream" and "Imagine That" but instead he makes more repeative dumbed down songs that sound alike.

Despite the pedo charges, I still listen to his stuff if its good, but I don't actually buy his shit any more.

I like Stokely (nowhere near as much as D'Angelo), but I find it interesting you'd post him doing a cover.

I agree with you to an extent. I still think he's a musical genius! He has that ability to make music that is popular today but also make classics. Something about his incredible talent mixed with pure stupidity = a great time! lol I was listening to his mixtape the other day and he's just brilliant!

Vocally and Musically. Stoke is a skilled drummer, plays guitar and
keyboards as well. IMO his band is the best artist to come out of
the 90's.

Yeah i don't follow that one either bro.
Saying D'Angelo is a better vocalist than Stokley is
definitely a joke for the ages.

No. Not really even close.

That said, he made two superlative albums and he does what he does incredibly well. But, he's not really that inventive or othwerwise unique.

And, as others have stated, his output is minimal thus far.
