Letoya Luckett

Did anyone see Letoya Luckett on 106 and park. She was commenting on MJ's death and she referred to herself and Usher as musicians. I cracked up laughing. I noticed that a lot of people in the media are now referring to singers as musicians. I'm beginning to think most people in the US have a mucisical IQ of 0.

Who's to say that they don't play an instrument? We don't know that for certain. Sadly it's not common anymore for a lot of our singers in the US post 1990's to be featured on instruments as they perform publicly anymore. I saw this as far back as singers like Toni Braxton and Anita Baker, both wonderfully proficient pianists but always put front and center to sing and only sing. Sometimes it's also a preference on behalf of the singer. I have friends that have gone through Yale and Juliard with wonderful capabilities as instrumentalists, but they cop major attitude at the suggestion that they accompany themselves while they perform. I will agree that the bar is set too low for stage performance in pop, though. I really would like to see the return of people propped right behind their instruments kicking major butt.

Exactly!

I'm not a fan of either but I wouldn't jump into conclusions yet.

Well, Letoya Luckett is hot as hell, and she did good by escaping Papa Knowles when she could!!

I give her props for that!
She got a nice ass too!

lol For me, there are musicians, singers, and images with a soundtrack. Since Letoya didn't really have a whole lot of videos from her debut album, but it still debuted at Number 1, I'm going to give her the singer title for now...plus, I really like her debut; love 'Obvious' mushy . When she starts having to make videos to sell her music (like many artists seem to have to do nowadays), than I'll be placing her in the images with a soundtrack category. nod

Neither of them plays an instrument. As long as Usher has been out, I've never seen him on an instrument. Also, just dabbling on an instrument doesn't make one a musician. The point I'm trying to make is that people in the media are quick to toss the label musician around. I guess that is why some of these singers believe they're musicians. I've even heard of rappers being referred to as musicaians. Most media people are idiots when it comes to music.

I'm not sure if your question is a put down of me or my post but I'll answer anyway. I don't watch that show but I tuned in yesterday because I was curious to hear what some of the younger artists had to say about MJ and his legacy.
