Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Lining

Don't know how many Prog metal fans we have on here but anyway

So this finally came out the other week and so far I'm very impressed by it. Its a big improvement over Systematic Chaos and you can tell a lot more energy and meaning have gone into the songs. Wither and The Best of Times you can really feel how much Mike's dad meant to him and that his passing has had a big impact on his life.

I love the whole gothic feel of A Nightmare to Remember. It sounds like something you would hear on a soundtrack to a Dracula movie. While the Count of Tuscany has elements of this as well it adds a bit more of a psychedelic feel to it.

The Shattered Fortress is a nice finale to the Twelve Step Suite. Again Mike putting everything into this song and is good to see something like alcoholism a topic for a song, let alone dedicate an hours worth of songs relating to the AA steps. Good to know that booze and drugs aren't running rampant in some bands these days.

Would have to say that Rite of Passage is the weak point of the album. I'm over all these anti war songs. They should have just left it at Sacrificed Sons and been done with that topic.
Receiving transmission from David Bowie's nipple antenna. Do you read me Lieutenant Bowie, I said do you read me...Lieutenant Bowie
