It looks like he's had poorly handled plastic surgery operations. confused He did not look like that when he toured and sang with Michael.

Planning on going back and reading this thread...I'm sure I will repeat in spirit what many others have said. Or maybe not. I am interested in hearing what others have to say.

Beautiful and very emotional service today. Exploitation was somehow kept to a bare minimum. The ceremony felt like it should have felt, a celebration and memorial of a life of a human being. Somewhere along the way, we got to know everything about this icon except for the human element. We knew MJ the superstar and not MJ the brother, son, friend, and father. And that's a shame because Michael never felt more real as a person than he did today.

The words of Paris were heartbreaking and heartfelt and genuine. As a father myself, I cannot remember seeing something that tore me up more in recent memory than her two or three sentences. They hit me like a thunderbolt. This wasn't just the loss of an entertainer to her and her brothers. This was her damn Daddy. And he was gone. When I got home from work, the first thing I did was hug my own daughters tight. Life is entirely too short.

I've had a lot of thoughts about MJ over the years, as time went on more negative than positive. And maybe it's just the emotion of today's event, one which seems to be one of the defining events of our generation, but I don't have a lot of negative in my heart anymore. I think after today what we thought we knew about this man and how many of us defined him didn't really fit with who the many who spoke appeared to be talking about with such raw and genuine emotion. It's not really our fault and MJ had a lot to do with it but I don't think any of us really knew much about this guy at all.

RIP

Why call the notion frivolous so quickly? lol.

There are many "coincidences" with that number and MJ. hmmm

He did make those over-exagerated facial expressions even during I'll be there in the Dangerous concert from Buchaerest...though now they look far more unusual, perhpas as his face seems tighter/older. But the man can sing, and he has toured with Mike, so i don't really care how weird he's looking right now.

Joe Jackson's daughter Joh'Vonne Jackson (from outside his marriage), is now 35 years old and lives in Las Vegas with her dad, she's allegedly his caretaker. Joh'Vonne allegedly works in the travel industry.

Am I the only one who didn't watch this? I know some folks here were saying they were gonna boycott it, but I don't know if they actually did.

I certainly don't blame Michael's friends for not showing up. These things are sickening to me. Everyone competes to show who is the most moved. You can't help but feel some of them are acting just a little bit. You suspect others are getting some morbid pleasure out of wallowing in the tragedy.

For someone who didn't watch it, you seem ever too willing to call it out.
If you do get to see it, I think you will see it was a fitting, respectful and dignified tribute.

If only everyone could be so respectful.

I thought I made it quite clear I was talking about showbiz memorials in general. And I did see clips of it on the news. It was exactly what I expected.

I should add that Americans are also notorious for just how scmaltchzy they can be. And the Jacksons are long term offenders in that area. It's just a taste issue. Maybe it's because I'm a Brit, but I'm sure there must be some Americans who find these things a bit sickening too.

In Jackson's case it's even worse because the same media that are lapping this up were the ones who savaged him for years. It's phony as hell. People love a good tragedy. In this country we had some of that when Pricess Diana died, but at least she had never advocated the virtues of middle aged men sharing their beds with underaged boys. Still, it was pretty OTT.

Speaking of underaged boys, what the fuck was that twelve year old doing there butchering "Who's Loving You"? I saw a feature this morning saying how one star has died (Michael) but another has been born (this hopeless wannabe). Even if he hadn't been crap, having him there and telling the world what a fan Michael was of this cute young boy was probably not the wisest idea.

I did not say or imply that MJ made bad choices about backing singers.

I also don't think it is appropriate to comment on how abundant ordinary church voices are either. It is quite irrelevant to this discussion especially at this moment in time.

You said the guy made OTT facial expressions back in the day too, which saved me the effort of making the point myself.

I made the point about his voice being nothing special because you said "the man can sing", but I always felt Mike could've done better with regards his backing singers.

And I would rather not have to speak in this thread, but every other thread about MJ is getting locked, so where else is there for the non-fanatics to go? Is everyone who doesn't buy into this hysteria banned from speaking? 'Cos that's what it feels like. I'd start a thread of my own, but it would just get locked, so what's the point?
