I heard that too. Crazy shit.

That's not entirely true.

A city administrator told the press that the extra police deployment would be paid for from a Los Angeles Police Department fund reserved for overtime costs of special events such as "1st Amendment marches, protests and funerals and other events large in scope and that have a potential to impact public safety."

they used a good portion of that for the Lakers. She also dodged the question about giving specifics of the fund.

Al Sharpton should be focusing on the disadvantage people of LA instead of the legacy of a pop star.

Michael Jackson Memorial To Feature Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Usher

July 6, 2099

The public memorial service for Michael Jackson at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Tuesday will feature some of the late singer's closest collaborators, friends and fans paying tribute to the King of Pop. Among the stars expected to appear (and possibly perform) at the public event — which will take place after a private memorial earlier in the morning — are Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Usher, John Mayer, Lionel Richie and Motown founder Berry Gordy, according to a statement from a spokesperson for the Jackson family.

The list does not specify which of the attendees will perform, but Carey is reportedly slated to reprise her famous cover of the Jackson song "I'll Be There" at the public ceremony and CNN has reported that Oscar-winning actress/singer Hudson will also sing at the event. Wonder was a contemporary of Jackson's on the Motown label in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Usher has often stated how influential Jackson was on his career, and Mayer performed the iconic guitar solo in "Beat It" on Fall Out Boy's 2008 cover of the song.

Among the other confirmed participants in the tribute to Jackson are Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, "Britain's Got Talent" finalist Shaheen Jafargholi — who toured as a young MJ in the "Thriller Live" show and sang the Jackson 5 cover version of "Who's Loving You" on the "BGT" show to great acclaim — the Andrae Crouch Choir, Lakers icon Magic Johnson, Martin Luther King III, Motown legend Smokey Robinson, Jackson family friend the Reverend Al Sharpton and Jackson's longtime pal, Brooke Shields. The statement said the lineup was preliminary and subject to change, but noted that no further information will be released regarding the program before Tuesday's event. Though she will not appear at the Los Angeles event, Madonna paid tribute to Jackson during one of her shows at the O2 Arena in London over the weekend — where Jackson was slated to kick off a 50-show run on July 13 — with one of her dancers interpreting some of the King of Pop's most famous dance moves to a medley of "Billie Jean" and "Wanna Be Startin' Something."

While those events are unfolding in Jackson's adopted home of Los Angeles, a memorial service in the singer's hometown of Gary, Indiana, is also taking shape. The Gary Post-Tribune reported that Mayor Rudy Clay has announced that another Gary-born singer, Deniece Williams, best known for her 1984 "Footloose" hit "Let's Hear It for the Boy," will be among the performers at a Friday memorial at the U.S. Steel Yard baseball stadium.

Other plans for the event include a performance from Indiana's first black Miss Indiana, Kellee Patterson, who kept in touch with Jackson after both left the city, and a 500-member choir singing "We Are the World."

You know he won't do it unless he can be sure he gets good airtime. I'm sounding like Marvin: "make me wanna holler/the way they do my life..."

I'm sure somewhere Michael is listening to Marvin singing this in concert going "I feel you, man, I feel you." disbelief

Wrong again. The fiscal year started July 1, the fund for all Los Angeles police overtime -- which according to sources covers 1.6 million hours, or nearly $90 million -- is flush.

He never got this great again, this was his defining moment post-Thriller (Ghosts was cool too but you know...):

Love the camaraderie between Sean Lennon and Brandon Boyd after Michael did his little circular move.

"OK, Sean, hold this..." lol

Oh, I so loved the anti gravity leaning! When I saw him live during the HIStory tour and he did the Smooth Criminal coreography I was just mesmerized by it and my jaw dropped when they did that leaning move. I just had to have a photo of him and the guys doing that so my dad bought one for me dancing jig I'm greateful I haven't lost that pic.
I just couldn't understand how on earth it was possible to do that!! lol

I hope Prince at least comments at Montreux, by at least covering one MJ song, if he does, i'll be overjoyed, if he doesn't, well screw him, i will be done with Jealous, petulant, fan-hating/baiting Prince forevermore.

It'd be nice if Prince were to attend the Memorial, seeing as it is just down the road. it aint a funeral, so being a Jehovah's Witness shouldnt come into it, don't suppose he will though, Prince thinks he's above everybody cause he's the one of the World's best musicians. Sadly for him, this last week has proven he isn't above everybody. certainly not even close to the greatest, most loved, entertainer ever.

Thanks! I suspected they were using harnesses and then maybe some special sort of shoes, but had no idea how those shoes functioned. Interesting! It's funny how I've always wondered like crazy about this but never made myself look it up. I guess I liked it being a mystery to me lol

Hey, i don't give a fuck!

Said my piece, not responding to the stone-throwers, i don't care. That's how i feel dude. Prince?! Pfft. MJ is rightly so mentioned in the same breath as Elvis and Lennon, Even Madonna is even being humble, Madonna!!! Prince apparently has no class so far. I hope he proves me wrong somewhere, somehow.

'Acknowledge Me'? Acknowledge Mike! I'm just sad at Prince is all. sad

Maybe Prince just don't wanna jump on the bandwagon. Besides he did play MJ's songs when the man was alive. I'm not gonna shit on him if he doesn't. Shit, the only thing he can do to piss me off is diss MJ and since he hasn't really done that despite that "your butt is mine" joke, I'm gonna leave it alone. I actually hate it when celebrities jump on the bandwagon of this mourning MJ business.

The entire film for Smooth Criminal (on Moonwalker) is 10X better than Thriller. Even the Bad short film is better than Thriller. That was how Michael worked. Each film had to be more amazing than its predecessor. I've always recognized that. And yet, everyone on TV still jumps on the Thriller bandwagon.

"Smooth Criminal" was his real masterpiece. To this day the video mesmerizes me. MORE SO than Thriller ever did. In fact "Smooth Criminal" was my first REAL memory of MJ as a performer. cool "Thriller" really pales in comparison...it really does. But these bandwagon mourners keep saying "Thriller". flipped off

I grew up on "Thriller," but my favorite "short film" is definitely "Remember the Time."
