You just reminded me of kindergarten! lol

I was looking at her videos from her first album, they were molding her into a Janet wannabe but she broke out of that with the next album

I'm around the same age as Timmy and Jay. Great song, I was always singing it along. lol

Shanice is doing her thing right now on YouTube singin a lot of songs acapella. Solid 3 and 1/2 octave range. Also I believe she recorded a song for President Barack Obama a while back.

Cheesy? eek No offense, but nothing Shanice does is cheesy, my friend hmph! wink She can still wipe the floor with all these young female singers and her high note is just as amazing as Mariah's.

She even owned Justin Timberlake back in the day:

And has proven that she can sing Beyonce's songs better than she can:

Here she is sing 'Home' at 8. It's a pretty hard song to pull off well and she could do it at 8:

Shanice could sing me the phonebook and it would be better than anything on the radio nowadays. She's an extremely underrated vocalist and I hope that she decides to release an album sooner rather than later; but she's loving being a mom now, so I commend her. Love her! bow

I was the worlds biggest shanice fan, until her second album. dreadful pop cheese.

fyi: john mcclain, executive produced shanice's debut Discovery. Yes, the man that is now overseeing mj's trust.

That album, btw, has no filler...it's excellent.

She's got a lot of really good cover songs on youtube and her website. She should just put out an album of covers. nod

These are some of my favorite songs from her:

"If I Never Knew You" w/ Jon Secada

"Silent Prayer" w/ Johnny Gill

"Turn Down The Lights"

"I Love Your Smile" is cheesy to me. Great song, but it is a teen-age love song. I still love it.

Love her voice, but that song... disbelief Sounds like an annoying toothpaste commercial. On the other hand, I used to wear out I'm Crying.

nod Plus, it was the early 90s and alot of R&B sounded similar lyrically especially coming from the younger sect. Some refer to it as 'cheesy', I just think of it as being adolescent puppy love and sappy. I put it in the same category as songs like "Can We Talk?" by Tevin Campbell and "Tender Kisses" by Traci Spencer...which I still listen to and think are great songs regardless of the 'cheese' factor as some would say. giggle All were sappy songs with adolescent lyrics, but still better than the R&B crap the industry insists on releasing nowadays; but that's just my twocents . Man, I miss the good old days of music. sad

Honestly, I've always defined the expression 'cheesy' as being 'bad with moments of hilarity'. Those little moments of funny keep it from being awful, but that's just how I see the term. I realize that for many 'cheesy' isn't defined the same way, so different strokes for different folks and again no offense. wink

falloff

I was all about Hakeem's remix (from the Boys) back then:

I liked the other singles as well ("I'm Cryin'," "Silent Prayer," and even the cover of "Lovin' You").

Shanice should have been just as big as Mariah in the 1990's. What went wrong?!?

I don't think Shanice had an image that would have propelled her and despite I love your smile's success, she was really more r&b than pop and was not going to have the mainstream appeal of a Mariah.

TD3, it is funny that you asked for one. I am in the process of putting one together, so that I can have one file...I have been collecting since H.S. and that's like over 25 years ago. When I finish it, I will let you see it.
