Electric Purgatory: The Fate of the Black rocker

Just wanted to know if anyone checked out "Electric Purgatory: The Fate of the Black rocker" on Ovation TV (7/1). For those unaware of the contributions and challenges of black rock musicians throughout history, it is very enlightening. It may be on again if you missed it so check your cable listings.

Yeah, I was watching it earlier. The whole thing has been up on Youtube for months.

I'm a big fan of this film.

I saw it three years ago when it screened in Los Angeles.
Glad more folks are able to see it now if they don't have the DVD.

That documentary was very good. My biggest question though is, where is the Prince footage from? Looks like it came from a Controversy tour show.
Could it be from "The Second Coming"? hmmm

I saw this last night and thought it was great. Ovation Channel is doing a whole series of these thru July, just FYI. This one will probably repeat. I missed the Chuck Berry "Impact" that came on a bit later, so I'm hoping that will repeat too. cool

This doc was right up my alley as a rock fan. I love it when they guy said he thought Black folks just hated the guitar...hilarious. It's just a shame that these folks find this door so closed to them when it's apart of their musicial tradition. This doc confirmed my worst suspicions. confused

I meant it confirmed my suspicions on why Blacks weren't breaking thru in rock and really haven't since the 70s. Obviously, not all Black musicians are rnb based, yet it's rare to see them in any mainstream way. This has been true consistantly since Hendrix. Even when you do see them, they tend to get a very short run. The guys in the doc confirmed this and gave their opinions on why that was.

I want to thank everybody for the kind remarks regarding Electric Purgatory. Please spread the word and continue the support. This film was done INDEPENDENT of the traditional Hollywood model. If you want to see more films like this then encourage people to BUY it. The Industry is watching to see the response. They feel the general public isn't interested. The YouTube hits show otherwise.

He & Martin Luther have a song called Old Soul that's really good. Don't know if they'll release it but it was "new" as of a year ago or so. Hopefully they'll get it out, it's good shit!

Bad Brains and Fishbone influenced so many, but it was the 'so many' that got popular while Bad Brains and Fishbone remained broke

Then again.....both H.R. and Kendall Jones had some mental trouble, that got in the way of any fame or fortune the bands might have enjoyed later.
