MJ was a thief! I can see taking one or two moves from someone but I saw things that were exactly the same done in exact procession!
LOVE Fosse. Greatest Choreographer ever and loved his direction in many a great broadway show & movie! Wish he wasn't taken from this world so soon, would have loved to see more of his work!

Michael Jackson was reportedly fond movie musicals and Dancer/ choreographers Bob Fosse, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelley, Michael Kidd and Jerome Robbins. His street dance elements from J-5 on came from James Brown, dancers from the Soul Train TV show. The Lockers, Geron "Casper" Candidate, Cooley Jackson, & Jeffrey Daniel He borrowed concepts and moves from the best and blended them with his own innate great dancing abilities. Michael was friends with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly earlier in his career. Elements of Thriller - Check out Bob Fosse's movie "All that Jazz" (take off with us number) Elements of Beat It & Bad - Check out Jerome Robbins Choregrapy in 1961 West Side Story (end gang fight scene & Play it Cool scene) Smooth Crimminal - Check out Fred Astaire 1953 film The Band Wagon

I don't know, There is a fine line it seems between being inspired by something and ripping something off and passing it off as your own. I give a pass to MJ & Prince because they respected their influences and they are both innately talented in their own right. If you can borrow from greatness and make something great out of what you learned I think that's cool. [Edited 7/4/09 10:14am]

It's kinda funny looking at that video knowing how Fosse was just slithery. He and Earl "Snake Hips" Tucker were difficult to figure out how they did the things they did.
