MJ Album Question... Just a quick question...
It seems like the retailers are cashing in on the death of Michael Jackson, which seems a sign of the times: that marketing will grasp any advertising to sell their stock... Anyways, I'm afraid I never really did get into MJ, I obviously knew of him and some of his work, but looking through the newly charting back catalogue, is it true that there as a solo artist he only released 6 full albums (excluding 'best ofs' and 'remix' albums)? From what I can tell through Amazon there was: Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, Invincible and HIStory - is this correct, or have I missed some? Thanks, Nick Formally known as Mr_Nos on Housequake

He released several solo albums on Motown, beginning in 1973,I believe.Contrary to popular belief,'Off The Wall' is NOT his "solo debut album"

It's not just cashing in; they're also meeting consumer demand. More people are buying his albums now.

I realised it would be, that's why I kept the question short and sweet... Didn't want it to turn into a huge thread And thanks for the infor above, I'll look into the motown ones too... Formally known as Mr_Nos on Housequake

Awhile back, there was some news about a box set that Motown was putting together, containing all of his solo Motown albums packaged together.I don't know if it has been released yet.

Just had a look at Wiki, seems there were four Motown albums, Got to Be There, Ben, Music and Me and Forever, Michael... Think that's answered my own question As to the boxset, I'm not sure, but if it's not listed on Amazon, I doubt it's been released yet. Formally known as Mr_Nos on Housequake

From what I can tell through Amazon there was: Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, Invincible and HIStory - is this correct, or have I missed some? Number Ones (has a new song on it) Ultimate Collection (well worth the money) Blood On The Dance Floor The Essential Collection There's also a greatest hits disk, with a pic of his shoes and socks on the cover, that is basically the Greatest Hits disk from the HIStory set. Also worth finding is the very, very, very hard to find Ghosts movie. As far as I know it only came out on VHS, and it's region 2. I have it. It also comes with a CD of a few unreleased tracks/remixes. I think one of the songs was later released on the Ultimate set. The Ultimate set also has a concert DVD. Don't forget the Number Ones DVD Dangerous: The Short Films Both HIStory DVDs Almost seems like there's a Bucharest DVD that is sold separately, but I'm not sure. It IS the DVD that's in the Ultimate collection set. I'd also recommend: Jacksons - Destiny, Triumph, LIVE, and Victory And retailers are just selling what's available. I was at the mall Saturday and every CD and DVD were sold out. Even the download cards for Thriller 25 were sold out. "Cashing in" seems to suggest that they're purposely making fake CDs, or Tshirts or something to sell just for the sake of it. Most times retailers didn't have THAT many Jackson albums. No more than any other artist. He's really not released that many NEW albums in his career, compared to some other artists. He's taken huge vats of time between album, as much as 4-6 years, opposed to the average of 2 that most artists take. I don't think moving the 10 CDs sitting in the bin is really "cashing in". Sure more will be shipped, and always will be.

And, not being naive, this is their job, so I guess it is understandable. Formally known as Mr_Nos on Housequake
