Jackson Bragged to Old Friend He Felt Great

Little by little we’re able to fill in the blanks from Michael Jackson’s last few weeks.

Now it turns out that back on May 5th he ran into an old friend and not only told her that he felt great, but showed off, too.

Joanne Horowitz manages Kevin Spacey and other actors. But back in the 1970s she worked in the music business and was the publicist for Studio 54. It was then that she met Michael, around the time of “Off the Wall.” They hit it off, became great pals, and for a while she was his guide in New York.

Flash forward to this past May 5th: Horowitz was in Beverly Hills waiting to see her dermatologist. From one of the adjacent examination rooms she heard a lot of noise, thudding on the ground and hitting the walls.

“I asked the doctor what was going on,” Horowitz told me last night. “He said it was Michael Jackson, practicing dance moves.” Horowitz told the doctor, Arnold Klein, Michael was her old friend. Klein went next door and told Jackson, who came running in.

“We were so happy to see each other, It had been 25 years,” said Horowitz. “He was in great shape, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. He showed off his body — flexing his muscles, he also lifted his shirt to show me his new six pack. He said he’d been working out for the new tour. He was very proud. He looked very fit. He wasn’t wearing any makeup, either. And he had no bodyguards with him. He was just on his own.”

Horowitz and Jackson reminisced about the old days, and Michael bragged to her about being a father. He invited her to the London shows, and even signed a CD for her that Klein kept in his office.

“He said everything was going great but he’d just gotten off the phone with someone about that auction, and he wasn’t happy about that. But he seemed like the old Michael.”

Horowitz did tell me she’s been very dismayed about the coverage of Jackson since his death, especially the notion presented by tabloids, tmz.com and other outlets that the performer “wanted to die” and other crazy ideas.

“That couldn’t have been further from the truth,” Horowitz tells me.

Q: You were in Russia when you learned of Michael’s death?

A: Yes, and my first thought was, I need to come back to London immediately. It was very strange feeling. I saw Mike just three months ago. He was feeling good. No complaints.

Q: Did you talk to his relatives?

A: A lot of his friends were mine, too. It’s our tragedy. As soon as I knew about his death, I grabbed my phone. I felt that I needed to call everybody who cared about him, who loved him as much as I do.

Q: What do you think was the real reason for his death?

A: Mike was killed! It was a real murder. Look, his doctor ran away. If there were no doctors around him, he would be OK! He shouldn’t have died!

Q: Had he ever thought about death?

A: You know, there was one moment. I was playing a piano, and he was standing next to me. All of a sudden, he stretched his hands, looking upwards. It seemed to me that it was very important to him. That’s why I left the room and switched the light off. After half an hour I came back to the room. He was whispering: “Thank you for my talent. Thank you for everything I’ve got. Thank you for all the people who love me. Tell me what I should do, and I’ll do it.” It seemed to me that it was the moment of his communication with God.

Jackson's Will To Be Filed In Court Wednesday, July 1st
July 1, 2009

Heavy construction equipment and workers passed through the wrought-iron gates of Neverland Ranch, fueling speculation that it could soon be hosting a funeral or a permanent memorial to Michael Jackson.

The activity occurred Tuesday, the day before Jackson's will was expected to be filed in court. Santa Barbara County officials said there were no final decisions by the Jackson family for any funeral or memorial service in the county or at Neverland.

All the same, more than a dozen vehicles, including a tractor, a cement mixer and a backhoe, along with groups of gardeners and florists bearing huge wreaths, were spotted on the property about 120 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

At once a symbol of Jackson's success and excesses, Neverland — the 2,500-acre property nestled in the hills of Santa Barbara County's wine country — became the site of a makeshift memorial after his death Thursday.

Members of Jackson's family met Tuesday with officials from the Los Angeles police and California Highway Patrol about funeral services, but "details are still pending," according to Fran Clader, a spokeswoman for the patrol. The patrol would need to be consulted if the body was moved from Los Angeles to Neverland.

Fearing the narrow, two-lane Figueroa Mountain Road that runs past Neverland will be overwhelmed by media and fans, county officials said Wednesday that they'll start enforcing parking restrictions.

It was unclear whether Jackson could be legally buried at the ranch. The state's health and safety code makes interring any uncremated remains outside of a cemetery a misdemeanor. Cremated remains can be kept in a home or private mausoleum outside a cemetery, he said.

Jackson's will was to be filed Wednesday in Los Angeles. A person with knowledge of the document told The Associated Press on Tuesday that it gives guardianship over his children to the singer's mother and leaves all his assets in a trust fund.

The will was signed on July 7, 2002, and named as executors Jackson's longtime lawyer John Branca and John McClain, a music executive and a family friend, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the topic.

The family said in court documents Monday that it believed the 50-year-old entertainer died Thursday without a valid will and moved swiftly to take control over his lucrative, but debt-encumbered, estate.

In response, Judge Mitchell Beckloff granted Jackson's 79-year-old mother, Katherine Jackson, temporary guardianship of her son's three children, who range in age from 7 to 12.

The judge also gave her control over some of her son's personal property that is now in the hands of an unnamed third party. But the judge did not immediately rule on her requests to take charge of the children's and Jackson's estates.

On its face, the move by Jackson's family to proactively take legal action does not seem to conflict with the singer's stated desire to have his children put under his parents' care and their financial welfare assured.

Experts said the personal bankruptcy of Jackson's parents in 1999 could work against Katherine taking control of the estate.

Court documents show Katherine and Joe Jackson filed for Chapter 7 and listed nearly $24 million in debts that included court judgments, auto loans and credit cards. The only valuable asset listed was a house in Las Vegas then valued at $290,000. The bankruptcy was terminated in March 2007, but the documents gave no further details.

"I think it would be a negative factor but not necessarily a disqualifier," said Beth Kaufman, a Washington-based attorney specializing in estate tax issues. "It could indicate that she is not capable of sound financial management."

More details emerged Tuesday about the recent state of Jackson's finances. In the most detailed account yet of the singer's tangled financial empire, documents obtained by the AP show Jackson claimed to have a net worth of $236.6 million as of March 31, 2007.

Since that time both Jackson's debts and assets grew substantially — he refinanced loans later that year that increased his debt load by tens of millions of dollars, but the Sony/ATV Music Publishing joint venture he is a part of also spent hundreds of millions acquiring new songs.

Jackson's own health was a concern in his final days. A nutritionist who was working with the singer as he prepared his comeback bid said Jackson was so distraught over persistent insomnia in recent months that he pleaded for a powerful sedative, despite warnings it could be harmful.

Cherilyn Lee, a registered nurse whose specialty includes nutritional counseling, said she got a frantic phone call from Jackson four days before his death that made her fear that he somehow obtained Diprivan or another drug to induce sleep.

Lee said Jackson in the call complained that one side of his body felt hot and the other side was cold, prompting her to believe the "somebody had given him something that hit the central nervous system."

"He was in trouble Sunday and he was crying out," she said.

But a photographer who took pictures of Jackson's rehearsals two days before his death had a different impression.

"From the way he was performing, to me he was 100 percent. He was the same Michael that I have photographed numerous times. I was happy for him. He was extremely happy," American photographer Kevin Mazur told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, thousands of Jackson fans crammed into New York City's famed Apollo Theater for a public tribute to the performer, clutching photographs, cheering and dancing to his music at the legendary venue that launched the one-time child star's career.

"He knew he was loved, but he didn't know he was this loved," said one participant, Rosiland Sargent, 59, of West Orange, N.J.

Michael Jackson's Wardrobe On Display At The Grammy Museum, Los Angeles

In celebration of the life and work of Michael Jackson, The Museum is sharing a collection of Jackson's most iconic wardrobe pieces (including the suit he wore on the cover of Thriller).

Items will be exhibited on the Museum's third floor alongside video of some of Jackson's most exciting Grammy performances. We hope this exhibit will serve as a fitting tribute to one of the most significant entertainers in music history.

For thousands of years, royalty has called attention to itself with extravagant clothing and other finery. Jewels, fine fabrics, and elaborate accessories can complete the transformation of a person into a brightly-shining star that holds its audience spellbound.

As the self-anointed "King of Pop," Michael Jackson has fully embraced this royal tradition. And like his album HIStory, this exhibit gathers together some of his greatest hits — pieces that are uniquely and unmistakably his.

"The Museum is excited for this rare chance to share this material with our visitors," said Chief Curator Ken Luftig Viste. "Michael Jackson is undeniably one of the most significant entertainers in pop music history, and the pieces' starpower — and design — is striking. Few, if any, have ever before been made available to the public in this way."

Including seven elaborately embellished jackets, two gloves, and more, highlights include jackets worn on the Victory tour, at Jackson's 1984 American Music Awards appearance, and at the dedication of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. All are elaborately bejeweled, beaded, and detailed — with one piece weighing nearly fifteen pounds.

"As a 21st Century museum, we will update our exhibit content frequently," said Executive Director Robert Santelli. "Though we've only been open a short time, Michael Jackson: HIStyle allows us to demonstrate our steadfast commitment to putting that goal into practice. Plus, it's an amazing collection."

Working with talented designers, Jackson's crystals, sequins, beads, embroidery, and insignia have combined to catch the eyes of millions, transmitting his dance moves from the stage to the back row, and his starpower across the world.

The display is located on the third floor of the museum. Make your reservation today!

Hours: Sunday - Friday 11:30 AM - 7:30 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM - 7:30 PM

I'm through with watching TV too. I almost saw that helicopter footage for the last time yesterday. And except for credible folks like Quincy and Spike Lee and other people that worked closely with him, I am not interested in all these random people "loving" Michael all of a sudden.

And the main magazine I want though is that TV Guide. Mercy, he looks good on that cover. Maybe the Time one too, depending on its content.

From The Santa Barbara News-Press~This is a picture of what traffic is like outside Neverland.

As law enforcement prepares for what's shaping up to be a memorial service later this week for Michael Jackson at his longtime home, Neverland Valley Ranch, the chairman of the company that acquired the property last November urged everyone to conduct themselves with grace and elegance as they pay their respects.

In an "open letter to the Santa Barbara Community" e-mailed to the News-Press at 12:15 p.m. today, Colony Capital LLC Chairman Tom Barrack Jr. wrote, "This is our chance to teach the world what 'mi casa es su casa' really means."

Visitors and fans are coming "with or without permission or an invitation," the longtime Santa Ynez Valley horse rancher and farmer states in the letter.

"As a consequence, all actions being taken at the moment are aimed at creating a well thought out and coordinated plan amongst the family, the sheriff, the county regulatory agencies, the fire department, local proprietors, local press, local residents and the Highway Patrol to protect and preserve the interests of all constituencies."

Mr. Barrack states: "We must also prepare to accommodate Michael's family's wishes as they contemplate the location of his final resting place and their own return to the tranquil grounds of the Michael Jackson family compound. Michael Jackson was accused, tried and acquitted in our county and found innocent on all counts."

"As Michael's final arrangements are planned," the letter continues, "his family's wishes should be welcomed by this county with open arms."

"Let's adopt an attitude of hospitality, warmth, and tolerance and allow the world to pay their respects to this global icon by conducting ourselves with grace and elegance."

Earlier in the day, Lt. Butch Arnoldi of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department said his agency and the California Highway Patrol were tapped to help with a motorcade and crowd control for a public event Thursday or Friday at Neverland.

Plans for CHP assistance are being drawn up at the agency's Southern Division Headquarters, in Los Angeles, according to officials in the Santa Barbara station.

If the 50-year-old's body were driven from Los Angeles to the Figueroa Mountain Road ranch, north of Los Olivos, the CHP would be the agency to provide motorcade protection.

As first reported by the News-Press on Sunday, Jermaine Jackson and other family members were at the ranch on Saturday for a catered lunchtime meeting -- perhaps drawing up plans for some sort of local memorial event.

But officials at both the Santa Barbara and Buellton CHP stations told the News-Press they had not yet received an official request for motorcade assistance from the Jackson camp.

Meanwhile, hotel rooms in the Santa Ynez Valley and are being scooped up quickly as people get ready for whatever celebration the Jackson family throws at Neverland.

For more, see Wednesday's News-Press.

I wonder if it is just more profitable for them to force people to buy digital media? They may be concerned with the availability of downloads, that people who couldn't by actual cds just purchased on line instead? Still 405,000 in four days is pretty amazing these days.

Also imagine the sneaks of cell phone pics, disgraceful yes but people and press will do it.I don't agree with the public viewing. And I hope hes not buried there in Never land because they destroyed that as a home for him years ago sad

That's what they did with Diana. I really doubt she was in that procession.

It is a twisty road to go up the San Marcos Pass, and then once you get to Los Olivos, it is a two way country road, with nothing but cows and horses. Very pretty drive under normal circumstances but this.... No thanks!!

Grieving Jackson Fans 'Commit Suicide'

Related photos / videos Grieving Jackson Fans 'Commit Suicide' Enlarge photo Gary Taylor, president and owner of MJJcommunity.com, said he understood the tragedies had mostly taken place outside of the UK but he believed one may have been British.

"I know there has been an increase, I now believe the figure is 12. I believe there may have been one Briton who has taken their life," he said.

"It is a serious situation that these people are going through but Michael Jackson would never want this. He would want them to live."

Jesse Jackson, a friend of the singer, has recorded a YouTube film on the site urging fans not to "self destruct".

He said: "This is a time when hearts are heavy. There is great pain but great cause to celebrate Michael's life.

"It made Michael happy saying 'We Are The World'. Don't self destruct.

"We fall down sometimes, we get back up. That's the right thing to do. In Michael's name let's live together as brothers and sisters and not die apart as fools."

MJJcommunity.com was formed 10 years ago by Mr Taylor, a London office manager, and has more than 14,000 online users and 30 staff worldwide.

He said the singer's death had left his fans on the forum "in a surreal place".

"They can't accept it, they feel in some sort of different reality," he said.

"I'm stunned that he's dead. One minute he is coming here for concerts and the next he is gone.

"I think the funeral will be where the reality kicks in that he is gone and won't be coming back, there will be a huge depression in the fan community when that happens."

Thousands of Michael Jackson fans are expected to gather for a vigil on July 13 at the O2 Arena where the star was due to perform.

They will assemble at Canary Wharf from 1pm before moving on to the 02 from 6pm.

I'm sorry but I have held my tongue long enough. What the hell kind of crazy ass person would commit suicide over a damn musical entertainer?!! It's fine to love an entertainer but damn, this is fucking rediculous! If someone is that damn obsessed with an entertainer, they need to get a fucking life.

Where are these people's families? Do they have any friends other than the ones that are just as obsessed as they are? Do they work? What about their co-workers? Was there anybody around, not after Michael Jackson's death, but before it, that had the guts to tell them...."Look dammitt, you are obsessed and are becoming crazy as hell. Seek some professional help before you lose your damn mind". I know I'm sounding mean right now because I find this fucking rediculous but someone could have said something to them in a nice way that they think they are becoming a loony toon without using those exact words.

I be damned if I would kill myself over a family member, much less somebody on a damn TV screen or a record that I've never even met. I just don't understand it. Get some fucking strength! If you've got problems that you think that only that artist can relate to, talk to somebody in the real world. There's a lot of different types of people out there and somebody out there is similar to you other than just an entertainer on a TV screen. If there weren't somebody else out there similar, you would be that artist's only fan. And considering the billions of Michael Jackson fans out there, in the words of his own damn song...."You Are Not Alone".

Oh..and I forgot...that silly shit about "Michael Jackson wouldn't want you to commit suicide"...fuck that. This ain't about Michael Jackson no more. Worrying about what he's doing or what he wants to the point that you might commit suicide over it is what got you crazy as hell to begin with. That's the wrong damn approach. The right approach is, somebody in the real world that is around this person telling them...."I don't want this. I don't want you committing suicide". The hell with whether Michael Jackson would want you to commit suicide or not. Hell, he don't know you.

Yes, my friend was saying the same thing. Now he is torn on whether to go or not altho he already bought his ticket! Heard they are wheeling in port-o-potties. Port-o-potties are never a good thing. disbelief

It is a twisty road to go up the San Marcos Pass, and then once you get to Los Olivos, it is a two way country road, with nothing but cows and horses. Very pretty drive under normal circumstances but this.... No thanks!!

And for it to be a holiday weekend. July 4th will never be the same. No disrespect to Michael or anyone but I wish I could fast forward past all of this. Seeing it in person will be gut-wrenching.
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Just hearing that makes me sick. I think it's callous on their part to commit suicide. I can't even feel sorry for them because they had the chance to heal but they choose to suffer. Can't have pity for people who deliberately do that.
