Question about Michael's "Rock With You" so... okay
here I am listening to the vinyl for Off The Wall and... "Rock With You" just went off... is it me, or are the handclaps missing from the vinyl? (on the chorus: "I wanna roooock with yoooou *clap*") like... I just played the mp3 and the handclaps are there is the vinyl version actually more "stripped" than what I'm hearing on this mp3? or is one of my speaker wires loose? or am I just high [Edited 6/27/09 11:53am] because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

You must have one of the early pressings of the 'Off The Wall' album. The song "Rock With You" was slightly altered on the later pressings. The handclap was added. Also,I think the song "Get On The Floor" was also altered a bit on these later pressings.

Found some info on another forum :
"The differencees in the "Rock With You" mixes are that in the original LP mix there is a different rhythm guitar track, and there are no handclaps. The hi-hat isn't EQ'ed as hot, either. The easiest way to identify the original mix is that there are no handclaps anywhere on the track. Also, to confuse more, the remix was released edited on 45 and on radio promos. There are too many differences between the mixes of "Get On The Floor" to get into here. All the CBS Japanese-made CD pressing has is the original cover." "The first vinyl LP, cassette, and 8-track(promo and commercial copies) press run of "Off The Wall" has the original mixes of "Rock With You" and Get On The Floor". Right after the 45 of "Rock With You" was released as a single in November of '79, the switch took place earlier than the spring of 1980. The album was mastered again with the new mixes of the above mentioned tracks and the albums probably hit the stores around the end of the year or January of '80. I know because I bought the album on vinyl around this time and it had the remixes, where as the cassette copy I bought when the album was released had the original mixes. The version with the original mixes has never turned up again. Though the original mix of "Get On The Floor" did turn up on the B-sides of "Off The Wall" and "She's Out Of My Life"... Chris, do you have the remastered album?
Its the DIME. I love the demo versions of Don't Stop/Workin' Dady & Night Sony did well with his remasters, but I'm greedy,,,just a couple of songs don't cut it, child. I wish they release a compilation of ALL unreleased music he did with Sony.

I think next week will be time for me to continue and finish the Off The Wall essay. It'll be my tribute to him "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

OMG
I'm never going to play it again I'm going to have it framed okay maybe I'll play it once more to rip mp3s wow this is too damn cool!!! the whole time I thought my great-niece had been diggin around behind my record crates & pulled a wire the wrong way or something thanx to everyone who added input @Aisha - naw, I didn't buy the remaster you know I'm a sucker for the real deal when they add extras & such it just kinda takes away from the essence of the album itself and what it was mean to be... I'm a firm believer that they left the extras off for a reason LOL even when downloading albums if I accidentally download a remaster I usually delete everything that was not on the original I do pay attention to the outtakes & unreleased gems tho because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

I'm a firm believer that they left the extras off for a reason LOL even when downloading albums if I accidentally download a remaster I usually delete everything that was not on the original I do pay attention to the outtakes & unreleased gems tho I almost never do that (delete things not part of the original) but I can't do that for deluxe copies. If you ever find the SE to Off the Wall (or even Thriller25), make sure you don't burn the "extra" tracks tho the demos to "Working Day & Night" and "Don't Stop..." on the Off the Wall one will be pleasant. That is if you do decide to d/l a remaster, lol.
