Someone did a thread on this show a few years ago so I thought I'd do another one on it today. They are getting down on this show and this is exactly how we were doing it down here in Jackson. While the dancers on "Soul Train" were beginning to become stiff and trying to model rather than dance, local shows like these were still shakin' ass and getting down and dirty like it's supposed to be done.

We had a similar local show in my area in the 1970s and 1980s called "Black Gold" that was hosted by Lee King. Lee, if you're out there, and you might be because you played plenty of Prince on your show and it's the first place I ever heard the song "Head", post those old videos so we can show them how we used to throwdown down here.

I know about 'The Scene' I was in Detroit in the summer of '81,vacationing with my family.I remember watching this show and they played a brand new song called "Get It Up" by a group called The Time.First time I heard it,lol.

I thought you were originally from Detroit.

I just see on Youtube another Detroit dance-program from the late 80's called "The New Dance Show".
Here they're throwing down on Captain Rapp's "Bad Times", a release on which i think Jam & Lewis performed too :

The clip has 1989 printed on it but I think that's a mistake because that song was out in my senior year of high school (Class of 1985) and the clothes and hairstyles look like those from my senior year also.

You were exactly right. That track was a Jam and Lewis production.

Yeah... i actually thought that jam came out around 1983. So that "New Dance Show" started even earlier in the 80's ?... because i somewhat got the impression that it started in the late 80's,
since most episodes from that show on Youtube have music from that era and even some early housemusic.
That Captain Rapp-track might've been a "classic track of the day" which they played in their show with late-80's jams, but now i'm guessing & assuming like a mutha

Hey, That was the show back in the day here in Detroit. If you wanted to learn all the new moves, that was the show to watch(anyone remember the German Smurf, for those who grew up in Detroit). As the show host Nat Morris used 2 say b4 we can throw down we must change from Motown 2 Geektown.

I used to love The Scene. One of my teachers from Redford High used to be a regular dancer on there! I also used to love The New Dance Show!
