My new signature in memory of MJJ, as well as a shout-out to Prince & Madonna. Nice huh?!?

Nice. All of a sudden I feel more like vainandy...there is no more talent. Madonna, Prince, and Michael were the end of any true mega-super-icon-status stars. The shit that passes for talent today doesn't even raise my eyebrow.confused

I'm not talking about Stevie and some of the older stars still with us. But the 'new' talent lacks so much. I'm trying to think of anyone who can make my whole family rush to the TV to watch them jam. The only other group we did that for was EWF.

With pop icons, it's Prince & Madonna. To an extent, Janet & Kylie is up there as well (IMO).

He was such a beautiful person. This world was much too cruel of a place for a soul like his. I have to believe that there is something better for all of us when we leave this earth. Michael, they can't hurt you anymore. I've loved you since I was 2 years old and I'll never stop.

What about the Beatles catalogue that he co-owned with Sony. To my understanding, that's worth billions and Sony wanted full control of it for years.

Rumor is that MJ wanted to give it to Paul McCartney.

To just give it to him or sell it?

As for POP ICONS, there was Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, the Beatles (two of them are gone), MJ, Madonna and Prince. Frank, Elvis, John, George and MJ are the ones who have gone from this planet. As for modern pop icons, I don't think we'll lose Janet or Kylie or Madonna any time.

And that's how it should be. They did the same when James Brown's body was taken there. They played his music and several were dancing and singing along. Michael's music was about joy and happiness. We gotta preserve it. nod

RIP u mad, weird genius.
A part of me died when I saw this on the telly this morning. There was always comfort knowing that the man behind some of those songs, that helped me get through some bad moments, at times, of my life, was alive and walking.
There is still comfort though, of a different kind, knowing that this lyrical poet and beat box with the smooth moves, is finally at peace somewhere.

Sony Comments on the Passing of Michael Jackson

NEW YORK, NY – June 25, 2009 – Michael Jackson, one of the most widely beloved entertainers and profoundly influential artists of all-time, leaves an indelible imprint on popular music and culture.

Commenting on his passing, Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO and President, Sony Corporation, said: "Michael Jackson was a brilliant troubadour for his generation, a genius whose music reflected the passion and creativity of an era. His artistry and magnetism changed the music landscape forever. We have been profoundly affected by his originality, creativity and amazing body of work. The entire Sony family extends our deepest condolences to his family and to the millions of fans around the world who loved him."

Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, CEO, Sony Music Entertainment, said: "Michael Jackson's unsurpassed artistry and beloved music brought joy to every corner of the world. We join today with his millions of fans in expressing our profound sadness and we offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. It was a true privilege for all of us in the Sony Music family to work with one of the most talented superstars in the history of music. We will miss him greatly."

Martin Bandier, Chairman & CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing, said: "Michael was the kind of amazing talent that comes along once in a lifetime. He was an incredible recording artist, an insightful businessman, an unmatched performer, and a true icon. To all of us at Sony/ATV Music Publishing, he was also a trusted and passionate partner, who was very proud of our accomplishments. He will be dearly missed. We wish his children and entire family our deepest condolences."

Five of Jackson's solo albums – "Off the Wall," "Thriller," "Bad," "Dangerous" and "HIStory," all with Epic Records, a Sony Music label – are among the top-sellers of all time. During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and "Thriller" as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time. Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award.

Michael Jackson started in the music business at the age of 11 with his brothers as a member of the Jackson 5. In the early 1980s, he defined the art form of music video with such ground-breaking videos as "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and the epic "Thriller." Jackson's sound, style and dance moves inspired subsequent generations of pop, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists.

With Prince, some people in my family are ok with him, but they never got into him as much as I did. Same with Madonna. I love her. Some in my family don't. The whole family was into Michael. Michael appealed to all types of folks, young and old alike...from every corner of the planet. But I know some older people who never liked Madonna or Prince because of their sexuality and over-the-top performances.

I posted before about FOX news saying he and Barack Obama were the two most recognizable people on the face of the planet. I do love Janet and she is a super-star. But when I think of Michael, I think of someone who tried so very hard to make the world a better place. I won't get into all the gossip and crap about his trial, because I never believed a word of it.

Anyway, his videos were not bumping and grinding, or calling women bitches, or mindless garbage...they made you FEEL that if you just looked into the mirror YOU might be able to change the world. That if YOU helped just one child, YOU could make a difference. Most of his videos either made you laugh with joy or cry in sadness at the state of the world.

sigh Now who will follow in his footsteps? sad

Tick tock tick tock,,,,untill they milk the hell outta him before his body touches the ground.

I'm sorry, but Sony can go straight to hell on a 1-one way ticket.

I am in total shock right now over all of this. I was on the subway headed home from work and P.Y.T. came up on shuffle in my iPod and right as I got to my stop and the song ended, my friend called me and asked me if Michael had died. I hadn't heard anything but I heard Wanna Be Startin Something in someone's truck so I knew something was up. When I got to my uncle and aunt's house, I saw on the news that he had died. My heart dropped. I'm still wondering if this is really real, in spite of all of the media coverage.

I have had a lot of issues with MJ throughout the years, especially in the last 10+ years but Michael was the first star that I truly loved. Billie Jean was the first Michael Jackson song I had ever heard as I was 3 years old and I loved it. I would go to bed listening to Thriller and then Bad came out and I was in 7th heaven with him and his music. Off the Wall is my favorite MJ album but even the albums I have that I don't care for, I'm glad that I have them because they are a part of his legacy. I was always a fan of the music and I will always be a fan of his music. Yeah he was a tortured soul, but man did he have a gift and I'm so glad that God blessed us with Michael and his talent. My heart is heavy over this. The music world will never be the same. My prayers go out to the Jackson family and to his 3 kids.

RIP Michael Jackson. You and your music will forever be in my heart.

Kylie just survived breast cancer. THAT alone was a close call.

Madonna had 2 horseback riding-related injuries.

Janet has her seasaw weight issues. But she'll be OK.
