Yes. That and America's obsession w/ youth culture and nonsense. He should have been honing his voice, and stage presentation instead of over exerting himself, if thats what happened. The haters weren't any help either There is a void in music now. May he rest in peace.

Sky News in the UK just had a reporter at the hospital say that crazed fans are trying to break into the hospital by setting off fire alarms as a diversion.
Elizabeth Taylor never got to say goodbye to him either.

After hearing some insensitive comments from co-workers, and crying quietly in my cubicle, I needed a place to openly express my grief. I am glad there are people out there who remember Michael for his legacy, and his music. Thank you guys...

Michael Jackson, shown in 2008, was one of the biggest pop stars in history. Michael Jackson, shown in 2008, was one of the biggest pop stars in history. CNN has not confirmed this information. He was 50. He collapsed at his residence in the Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles, California, about noon Pacific time, suffering cardiac arrest, according to brother Randy Jackson. He died at UCLA Medical Center. Jackson's blazing rise to stardom -- and later fall from grace -- is among the most startling of show business tales. The son of a steelworker, he rose to fame as the lead singer of the Jackson 5, a band he formed with his brothers in the late 1960s. By the late '70s, as a solo artist, he was topping the charts with cuts from "Off the Wall," including "Rock With You" and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough." In 1982, he released "Thriller," an album that eventually produced seven hit singles. An appearance the next year on a Motown Records 25th-anniversary special cemented his status as the biggest star in the country. Timeline: The life of Michael Jackson ยป For the rest of the 1980s, they came no bigger. "Thriller's" follow-up, 1987's "Bad," sold almost as many copies. A new Jackson album -- a new Jackson appearance -- was a pop culture event. The pop music landscape was changing, however, opening up for rap, hip-hop and what came to be called "alternative" -- and Jackson was seen as out of step. His next release, 1991's "Dangerous," debuted at No. 1 but "only" produced one top-ranking single -- "Black or White" -- and that song earned criticism for its inexplicably violent ending, in which Jackson was seen smashing car windows and clutching his crotch. People feel what they feel about it but there is no denying the fact that he touched the world and we all grew up with him as a force to be reconned with. I'm incredibly saddened at the lack fo peace in his life and would rather have seen him live to get through to the other side in a geniuine way than to leave his issues unfinished. He is truly free from his pain now and that is one of the only things to take joy in right now. I was a fan of Michael's way before Prince. I used to kiss the tv anytime he was on a show. I remember the day he was on Motown 25 I was about 8 and I stayed home sick with an asthma attack that day. But when he did Billie Jean I jumped up and started screaming and dancing while my mother gave me the sideeye. "Sick, huh?" He always had that effect on me. awwwww...

Even though I haven't been a fan of his music or behavior post "Bad" period, I unexpectedly burst into tears. I grew up with him and his brothers from watching the J-5 cartoon, cutting the record out on the Alphabets cereal box, and catching them on Soul Train. My first concert was the Jackson 5 in 1975. 2 of my top favorite albums are Off the Wall and Triumph. Many on this site might want to be glib or eye roll, but it does feel like a family member has just been lost especially to those of us in our late 30s early 40s who loved him pre-Thriller. He was as fantastically talented as he was fantastically troubled. I hope god has mercy on his soul. RIP MJ

Amazingly, FOX said that the two most recognizable faces IN THE WORLD were Obama and Michael Jackson. I still cannot believe this. He was ONLY 50! OFF-TOPIC: Barry White lived longer, and he died at 53(?). Rick James died at 50-something as well. Barry was 58. Rick was 56. Only Ray Charles was older (73).
