bettybop said: I heard something about her label being worried about the lukewarm reception to her first single. Apparently there's some concern that she's stayed too far from her "pop" sound. That's what a report on the radio said, but who knows...I just know that "Obsessed" was not all that. Pretty forgettable.
Are those people over at Def Jam on dope? Or is it they just don't care? "We Belong Together", a ballad, was her comeback record. So, why don't they stick with what worked so well in the past? Why didn't they release a ballad as the first single instead of some stupid hip-hop song about Eminem??? Where is Mariah's management? Why aren't they doing something??? Mariah's New LP Packaged With Mini Magazine
August 3 It has come to this: Island Def Jam revealed that Mariah Carey’s new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel will feature a 34-page booklet devoted to the diva and produced by Elle magazine, Brand Week reports. It will be stocked with articles like “VIP Access to Her Sexy Love Life” and ads for Elizabeth Arden and the Bahamas Board of Tourism, among others. The integration of advertisements is the latest move by record companies to increase revenues as album sales continue to plummet. If the experiment succeeds, ad-packed booklets for Rihanna, Kanye West and Bon Jovi might be next. “The idea was really simple thinking: ‘We sell millions of records, so you should advertise with us,’ ” Island Def Jam head Antonio “L.A.” Reid said of the promotional deal. “My artists have substantial circulation — when you sell 2 million, 5 million, 8 million, that’s a lot of eyeballs. Most magazines aren’t as successful as those records.” The booklet will also appear in issues of Elle that coincide with the September 15th release of Carey’s album and plans are underway to produce a digitized version of the booklet for the digital release. Back in January 2008, Rock Daily wrote that then-EMI honcho Guy Hands flirted with the idea of corporate branding an artist, saying “Football [Soccer] teams have very distinct corporate sponsorship. Why shouldn’t some of the leading bands have the same sort of relationships?” http://www.rollingstone.c...-magazine/

love the idea. sounds like a lush campaign if executed well. it makes me glad they pushed back the album. to also have that booklet included in the biggest issue of the year for fashion magazines (september) is really smart. hope i'll get one of those editions in my hands. I ran into this:
http://www.musicisthehear...-kong.html A listening preview party for Mariah's new album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel was held in Hong Kong at the local Universal building. Regional marketing staff and media were invited, and two Mariah fans share their experience and describe the six songs that were played: Obsessed - Everyone knows this track... Candy Bling - Mariah's slowest jam to date, I can't quite think of a song to compare it to... - Very nice flow with an initmate feeling. In the middle, when Mariah sings 'STOP', there is a pause with no music (similar to "We Belong Together" when she sings "too deep"), bass is heavy, very slow and soulful jam. Standing O - Very Mary J. Blige, 'Standing O-O-O-O-O...' Another urban/R&B type song. - Similar in style to "Obsessed" with a little harder feel. With 'oh oh oh' in the chorus. There are more electric effects and a special ending. H-A-T-E-U - Much much better than the leaked demo, but the overall melody and production is the same and the baby sound is still there. - Similar to the demo, but with an extra bridge. Impossible - Another slow ballad... very Blackstreet.. Jodeci references in the lyrics. - Chorus lyrics: 'Love You Like..... love you like....' quite lot of whispering in this song, sounds like a side-track. I Want To Know What Love Is - It's got that whole "Through The Rain" vibe... breathy first chorus, then it's "bring on the choir". - Piano intro, then drum, arrangement something like "Bringin' On The Heartbreak." Yet it also has a 'world music' kind of feeling (like "Fly Like a Bird", "What More Can I Give"). The whole song is short in length All 6 songs were produced by Tricky Stewart and The-Dream, with the addition of Big Jim in "I Want To Know What Love Is." At least 3 singles are expected to be released from the album. Her new album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel in stores September 15th Source: Mariah Daily
