Well, Prince aside...
TEDDY RILEY. Also gotta give Peter Gabriel massive credit... He and Prince were the LinnDrum pioneers. I can't remember who did the drum programming 4 Jam & Lewis, but some of that was tight. Herbie's the Man, and also a friend, but I'm usually digging his earlier stuff (Headhunters, etc), where the drums were live, and Herbie was a MAJOR pioneer in several synths/keyboards, like Stevie was in the early-mid '70s. . Yeah, I know he did most of it, but I seem 2 remember someone else helping out on the drum programming on some of their productions... Maybe when they were trying 2 cop the New Jack Swing feel from Teddy? . [Edited 6/25/09 8:29am] "He's a musician's musician..." |
