KOKOLO (Afrobeat/funk) http://www.kokoloonline.com
http://www.myspace.com/kokoloafrobeat I love this group, they perform all over the world. Love their music, you could feel the James Brown and Fela Kuti feel to it. [Edited 6/24/09 19:43pm]

Great group. They are signed to Freestyle Records from London, a label that a friend of mine owns.

I love their music. I became interested in Afro-funk, if that's what it's called when I first heard "Fela Kuti's" "Expensive Sh*t" track. I also like their track "Doing our own thing". Awesome group. [Edited 6/25/09 10:58am]

[Edited 6/25/09 10:58am] Expensive Shit is my favorite Fela Kuti album. There are only two tracks on it (as with most of his albums), and the flipside is Water no Country, which is also an awesome track. But I have to admit, I have not listened much to Fela since I quit smoking pot some years ago. For some reason, it never sounded the same after that.

As a matter of fact, his son Femi Kuti was on Tavis Smiley's show last night, but it comes on at 12am and I didn't feel like waiting up to see it. I'll catch it on the net. Fela definitely had some political messages in his music, unfortunately his death came to early in my opinion, but when it's your time, it's your time I guess. [Edited 6/25/09 12:30pm]
