TV One Unsung - KLYMAXX Lynn Malsby of Klymaxx (the real one, not the Cheryl Cooley fakery) just confirmed that Klymaxx just finished a round of interviews for Unsung on TV ONE. It is supposed to air in July, although she didn't have a date yet. She said ALL of the band members were interviewed, which was a definite nod to the obvious question of "Will Cheryl Cooley be part of it?" I also assume Robbin Grider was interviewed as well. Robbin did not take part in Band Reunited on VH1 in 2003.
I love these girls. They were very interactive w/ the fans after Bands Reunited, and most fans were very supportive of them during the Cooley mess after. I can't wait for this one.

She's since moved back to the left coast to work on the new Klymaxx record. Lorena "Lungs" Stewart Porter is active in her choir, church and family in the dessert somewhere. Lynn works for a tech company in Los Angeles. Joyce is still active in the music business. Lungs also dated Terry Lewis for a while back in the 80's.

Yes it should be interesting. Bernadette was highly pissed at
Cheryl Cooley because Klymaxx is her band. The other girls also told Cheryl what she was doing is wrong. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

told Cheryl what she was doing is wrong. Cheryl was a liar about it all. She thought she had the right to use the name, and even after being served multiple Cease and Desist notices, she continued to use it. (And her version of Klymaxx is a poor reproduction. They were even doing Sheila E covers in concert.) It was earlier this year that trademark rights were fully given to Bernadette and Joyce and the Klymaxx name now resides with them permanently and legally. I coined the term "Fauxmaxx" on their message board when the fake Klymaxx was brought up. Lynn and the girls seemed to enjoy it, and frankly it was true. It IS a fake Klymaxx. The strength of the girls really showed through because they went on and played a hell of a gig on Bands Reunited. There was one part of the taping that never aired where Bernadette was slipping out of her bra under her shirt. The audience in the front row kept motioning to Bernadette as to what was happening. She quickly figured it out and fixed it. haha Funny moment.

I'm glad Bernadette and Joyce got control of the name because
that was pretty shitty of Cheryl and yes she is a liar and a half. I hope her fake ass band gets exposed and no one shows up at their shows. Is Lynn still performing with them? Do you know why Robin didn't do the reunion show on VH1? Don't laugh at my funk

Do you know why Robin didn't do the reunion show on VH1? Robbin just chose to not participate for her own reasons, nothing out of malice. Lynn said as much, and added that the other girls respected that. She did find it odd that they cut her out totally on the show, cropping her picture out of band photos, etc. Lynn did some gigs with them. She is still active on the Klymaxx message board at times, although lately it's been a bit low key over there. Bernadette is working on the new album with Joyce. I THINK Lungs is on it, but it's been a while since Bernadette has put any message out, so it's hard to tell. I believe they're pushing for the album to be completed and released this year.

Prince told Morris to "stop giving away Time secrets" referring to Klymaxx's sound.

Yeah, klymaxx sounds like a Prince band. I never really thought they were anything all that great, but to each his own "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I think they took it a step above the Prince sound. Morris just could not sing "I Miss You" the way Joyce could. [Edited 6/23/09 9:19am]

Klymaxx was a kick ass girls band in the 80's. I don't get the Time
comparisons other Bernadette being the Cool vogue girl of the band. The band worked with Jimmy and Terry early on but it wasn't until the Meeting in the Ladies Room album that they broke out. They were on the Solar/Constellation label and some of their stuff was produced by label mates Reggie and Vincent Calloway. Some of their music had more of a Midnight Star sound to me than the Time. She was a female pimp! Morris was her doppelganger. And they're both drummers too.

I never thought of them in terms of anything Prince related. They always reminded me of The Mary Jane girls attitude wise/soundwise.

I've always wondered though were these chicks actual, real musicians/songwriters or were they assembled by a producer?

Bernadette put the group together. Lynn is a great keyboard and piano player and wrote their biggest hit after waking up in the middle of the night. "I Miss You". Bernadette plays drums, Cheryl always played guitar.

Hell yes! Their wikipedia page sums it up very well. Notice Joyce Irby's section below that and some of the people she's been involved with as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klymaxx [Edited 6/23/09 17:22pm]

Don't forget Bobby Womack . Sounds like they're doing 2 mini seasons of 4 shows this year.

Bobby Womack is another one. I think Roger Troutman and Zapp will be documented too. And probably the Gap Band too.

They are some bad bitches! And really, all very very sweet girls. Bernadette is tough when needed, but has a sweet disposition otherwise. Lynn is just hysterical. Lorena is very sweet too. Joyce is cordial and generous with her words and actions. I love every one of them before I got to talk to them, but love them more now. I'm SO ready for this album! 2009 is going to be a good year for reunions. Commodores are working together, maybe they'll put out a song or three. The Family is due to put out an album this fall. Klymaxx is doing the same. Wendy and Lisa are still (well deservedly) riding the independent success of their latest album. Maxwell is FINALLY putting out the first of three CDs (one a year for 09, 10, and 11). Whitney is supposedly making a comeback. Sade is due out soon with a record. The only thing that could top all that is if Jill Scott threw her hat back in the ring, but she just had a baby, so 09 might not be for her musically.
