Buddy Miles - "Joe Tex"

Browsing LittleBLUECorvette's recent thread on Joe Tex reminded me of the instrumental (Joe Tex) "written" by Buddy Miles.
Actually Buddy took a Joe Tex tune titled You're Right, Ray Charles, dropped the lyrics and turned it into an instrumental.

You can hear the Joe Tex song here:

A live version of the Buddy Miles tune...

...Joe Tex followed by a cover of Clarence Carter's Take It Off Him and Put It On Me

That's right!

Any musician that came up through the 70s with any kind of Funk or hard R&B background knows about that lick.
You know when Buddy's Message To The People came out, if you were in a Funk/R&B cover band and you couldn't play that tune, (to use the vernacular) "You wadn't $hit!" smile

There are some other very good tunes on that album.
The better ones overall are the songs that have lyrics Buddy didn't write (Wholesale Love, Sudden Stop and the two Allman Brothers covers).
Unfortunately lyrics were his Achilles' Heel.

That's my take and i'm stickin' to it. lol

IMO, he pretty much re-writes the same couple of songs over and over lyrically.
Now the tracks are bangin', it's the lyrics that I have to tune out sometime.
