Nik Kershaw , Then and Now - "Don't Let Me Out Of My Cage"/ "Dangerous Eyes"

...

From the album, "Radio Musicola"

Nik Kershaw - Keyboards, Guitar, Vocals
Wix - Keyboards
Simon Phillips - Drums
Shari Kershaw - Backgrnd vocals

Nik Kershaw - Dangerous Eyes (2005)

Nik Kershaw - Guitars, piano, synth, percussion, bass, vocals

...

She has office girl hair that she wears in a bun
And her confident air doesn’t fool anyone,
With her curious walk, neither clumsy or svelte,
And a mouth where the bravest of butter would never dare melt

But her dangerous eyes could get you in trouble,
Could make you do something you might regret,
Her dangerous eyes could make you see double,
Could make you see God for a second, I bet....

Well she’s wider than some (if I can be graphic),
With a generous bum that wouldn’t stop traffic,
Her functional fingers, not exactly petite,
And you wouldn’t get anyone queuing to fall at those feet,

But her dangerous eyes could get you in trouble,
Could make you do something you might regret,
Her dangerous eyes could make you see double,
Could make you see God for a second, I bet...

You’ll say when you’ve seen her,
She’s no Angelina,
She’ll never make you lose your cool,
But I know when she flashes,
Those Medusa lashes,
You’ll just be one more fool,

You fool....

And her schoolteacher voice wouldn’t deign to entice,
And her ever so sensible dresses wouldn’t make you look twice,

But her dangerous eyes could get me in trouble,
Could make me do something I might regret,
Her dangerous eyes could well burst my bubble,
Could make me see God for a second...

Well her dangerous eyes could get you in trouble,
Could make you do something you might regret,
Her dangerous eyes could make you see double,
Could make you see God for a second, I bet...

Wouldnt it be good, was possibly one of the best songs of the 80's without a doubt and never gets its due.

nod True, and even that was Probably the closest he's been to a bona fide hit:

Wouldn't it Be Good, (1983)

Its a shame he never broke America, but they still play a couple of his videos on VH1 or whatever.

But the song he must live off, and by far his biggest hit, was "the one and only" for Chesney Hawkes. You can tell its a Nik song though, but its somewhat of a cheesy classic in the UK now. Very catchy. Not a big fan of it myself mind.

I know UK people know that one LOL.

After his bomb album "tracks", I guess he resigned himself to working for others. I liked the track he wrote for the osmond boys called "show me the way", which has that melencholy and slightly funny lyrically feel of some of his best work. Even the lead vocal is styled after him.

Nik Kershaw is really great. Really amazing, unusual chord progressions... but still all very catchy.

biggrin Yup, those Chords are what attracted me in the first place--well that, and finding out he was a big fan of Steely Dan, Weather Report, Pat Metheny, and Peter Gabriel...

Thats odd, I dont really like any of those guys LOL. Props on him hooking up with one of my all time fav people Peter work for "tracks". I know we discussed it before, but Wolf is quite underated as pop producers go.

Oddly, Kershaw produced a cover of his own song ("wouldn't it be good") for Tommy Page. Must of been quite odd to do that, but its cool Tommy knew who he was, as most Americans probably don't. Very, very similar cover, but I just prefer Tommy's as I love the (now dated) early 90's sheen it has.

Yeah, I dig Peter's stuff, too! Is he doing anything lately?

Not sure. I sorta lost track of him after the early 90's.
