It gives me something to watch and be entertained by these days rather than being forced to watch bullshit reality shows because there's nothing else on TV to watch. I saw one fairly recently on VH1 Classic called "New York in the 1970s". Look around and see if it's posted somewhere. It had some good footage of the disco scene. I don't like those type of docus, they put everything into everything. I rather just have them talk about the music or at least one musician in their docus but they hardly ever do that except a few times (Left Eye, Bruce Springsteen).

I never thought of The Stones' "Miss You" as disco, just a killer groove. Was it considered disco back then?

Yeah it was. I don't know what's really "disco" about it, it's a cool funk joint tho. It was still pretty much rock 'n' roll, you could call it "dancey blues music". Thanks for the correction, Harle, lol. It IS funk, lol. [Edited 6/18/09 10:52am]

Hey Harle...your posts surely provoked much thought and great posts. Do you have any disco comps or anything you'd like to suggest to us? I'm always on the look out for something new. Your enthusiasm is gonna to have folks pulling out their disco joints Yup...I always thought of "Miss You" as a hot funk cut. I rock that one out often.

Even though I love disco, I adore ITS baby. The early 80s post-disco movement.
The movement that gave us Jacques Fred Petrus, Terry Lewis & Jimmy Jam, Mic Murphy, Kashif and the cats that Jay mentioned already, Leroy Burgess & Leon Sylvers. Aside from Prince & Slick Rick, because those guys are on a league of their own

Well rock out now:
This is what I call "Funk music at the blues juke joint".

OMG I had this album when I was a kid. This I'm not done with reading this thread but this is excellent. I'm learning a lot here, especially on one of my favorite genres, Disco. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Here's the divine Yvonne Elliman. Some kid recently did a cover, but here's the original. She was a fantastic singer. For many years she was Eric Clapton's back up singer in ROCK music. She was label mates w/ the BGs who wrote this. Her old man was a big muckety muck at RSO Records, but she has chops.

Unfortunately, one of the greatest disco instrumentals hasn't been uploaded to YT, but it's MFBS' cut "K Jee" that was on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. This song used to be used on PBS to do their ads for the show "Cosmos". Cool, huh?

No, Muscles wasn't disco, but it was a killer cut that was HUGE. MJ wrote it for Diana and claimed it was about his snake. Funny thing was, the snake was famous too!

[Edited 6/18/09 14:32pm] Damn. The funny thing is that as strict as she was when it came to music she let me do my own thing and didn't supervise what I bought at all. I bought 1999 when I was 9 or 10 then proceeded to purchase every Prince album/single i could get. I even hung up the shower poster over my bed but under my canopy. It was months before she noticed it and she never said a word. It stayed up til high school. She did however take a perverse pleasure in telling everyone that came to the house that Prince was my boyfriend.
