I came from Panama at the age of 7 the summer of 1980. Lots of music, even disco, was still playing on the radio. I remember Off the Wall staying on heavy rotation that summer. You lucky mutha... When I was 7, the radio was playing TLC, SWV, Kriss Kross, All For One,..and....you know who Awwwww, poor Bboy. You and Rrrruhhh, ain't never gon' get along huh? 1980 was another great year for music. I distinctly remember hearing John Lennon's music everywhere that year. [Edited 6/18/09 21:54pm]

It was considered disco-ish.Compared to most of their other singles from the 70s,"Miss You" was a departure for them.It definitely had a funky beat. There was even an extended 12" version, which was rare for 'rock' singles.

SCNDLS said: This is my favorite by them. Can someone explain why Tavares also had a version on the soundtrack? That never made sense to me.
Here's my theory: the Tavares version is played when Tony and Stephanie are rehearsing their moves in a dance studio. The Bee Gees version is played during the actual dance contest.I think the director felt that the dance contest needed a more lush, sexier, slightly slower version of the song,to emphasize the chemistry between the two of them. The Tavares version is more uptempo and fun (which reflected the rehearsal scene) while the Bee Gees version is more "serious" and romantic, which reflected that scene. Make any sense? That's my guess, anyway.

Yup, because aside from the Bee Gees, how many disco acts were straight white dudes? They resented seeing Blacks and gays taking their places in their faces. Too damn bad! Actually, quite a few straight white men hopped on-board... Oddly, all these noteable examples are Brits...
