Marvin Gaye - Mendota (instrumental)

NOTE: "Mendota" was apparently supposed to be part of a funk rock instrumental album Marvin was working on but it was shelved. Michael Henderson (yes the singer behind "You Are My Starship" and "Can't We Fall in Love Again?" with Phyllis) produced this, Bohannon (Hamilton) is drumming and Ray Parker is playing that damn guitar, boy! guitar

ENJOY! cool

I remember this from the Deluxe Edition of the 'Let's Get It On' album, which was stellar by the way. This was one of my favorite outtakes from that release. Loved the dramatic strings and the way it was composed. It's almost like poetry set to music and it gave me a better understanding that Marv did more than produce and write his own music at this point, but he was interested in scoring also.

Right. He really was. He was really ambitious and proof that he did at least try to do some of that was impressive. You heard "Checking Out (Double Clutch)" from THE MASTER? Funky stuff. Marvin basically "raps" and shouts out the crew who are doing the instrumentation ("Bohannon and the boys..."). fro

Yeah, I've heard that cut from the Master box set and that's one of the fonkiest things Marv ever cut.

I felt that guitar was "rapping" at the end with that pedal. cool
