I'm new here but one thing I like about this forum (esp. the non Prince area) is that fandom is at a minimium. I used to be involved in blues forums mostly and people are rather uptight on the subject. I escaped Eric Clapton fandom and fansites, so I find the Org pretty balanced and relaxed place to discuss music geneally.

Graycap23 if you wanna know what a music snobe is, go to a blues forum. lol

Most other forums I've visited have suffered from poor formatting. The org is the most well constructed forum I've visited, but is poor in other ways. I found a good Joni Mitchell forum last year, which had a great layout and well-informed users, but unfortunately it got shut down. Are there any other forums that are particularly good?

Chaka Khan's board is tight if you want to get more into obscure RnB/soul divas,,,but its SLOW as all hell, and the people are abit close minded.

I'd say you're in the right place.

You'd fit in so well at Chaka Khan's board, Midnight mover! lol lol

I belong to many music forums and I really must say the Org has the most diverse, eclectic, contributors around! Yeah, we have our fair share of loony tunes but in spite of them, the Org is still a great place to hang out, if you really care about music as a whole!

Interesting you say that.

Unlike you, i wouldn't hit a thread to display my dislike for fans of an act i don't particularly like. Threads are what you make them. Live and let live.

I'm respectful of people's choices in life.

Not only are threads what people make of them, but the Org is too. you don't like it, why be disrespectful? it's folk like you who bring this forum down and make it depressing. Stay out of the threads of acts/fans you don't dig and you might find the org as good as it gets indeed.

You know.

Admission of guilt?, throw that towel. look at my recent posts, hardly any MJ responses, though yeah, i'm a fan, I'll admit, you bully on folks that may not be as gifted as you at expressing themselves via a keyboard, makes you low as can be in my book.

There's a Pink Floyd thread right now in this forum, can't get them myself, never have. i don't see the need to hurl insults to those folk that do. Same goes for Kylie, GaGa etc not interested.

Why do you feel the need to upset folk? waste of your time aint it?

Bad analogy. You've never liked those people. With me, I was a big fan of MJ when he was good. I still am a fan of that MJ.

And I don't bully MJ fans. I just have a low tolerance for such brazen delusion. It would be nice to have an intelligent discussion about MJ, but it's impossible here, because of the type of fan he attracts and the sheer number of them on this website. Sorry, but I've just gotta keep it real.

But really, MJ is not relevant to me these days, and I'd rather discuss Leonard Cohen's recent tour or Chuck Berry's first album, etc, but the org just doesn't cover that many bases. It's mostly devoted to kiddie acts. This is the reason I started this thread to see if anyone knew of any other forums which might be more nourishing. It's a shame because Prince is my all time favourite artist.

Bad analogy?, why? there are plenty of acts i loved and left behind too.

Still. I. Don't. Comment.

or attack their fans. Because as you said, "they're not relevant to me". what you do is pure folly on your part. why you can't see that is beyond me.

But carry on if it makes you happy, but rest assured, people think you're idiotic and foolish, and somewhat a 'LOON' yourself.

Do you ever go into P M&M forum seeing as he's your fave artist ever? far more whacko's. you'd go crazy, knock yourself out. there are far more crazy P fans on there, If you really have that little of a life, perhaps you could try improve the quality of THAT forum.

Dude, I don't know if you've noticed, but I generally don't spend much time on the org. Just an hour or two here and there. Obviously, I make such an impression that you overestimate my participation. I'll take that as a compliment.

And your analogy was poor because you never liked the artists you mentioned, so of course you won't comment on them. NOW you're mentioning artists you've supposedly moved on from (names?), but that's you rewriting your argument after the fact. That wasn't what you said in your previous post. Goal posts are meant to stay in one place, dude. You can't just move them half-way through the discussion.

And please, don't kid yourself. Of course there are crazy P fans, but NO-ONE has fans as deluded and blind as MJ's. No-one. I find it hard to believe anyone could deny that with a straight face. Oh, of course I forgot. You're an MJ fan. wink

I'm not much of a thread starter myself, but I feel you here. You could, if you're inclined, start some threads about these sorts of artists (I'm sure you'll get responses) OR add a more specific type forum to your mix. I can't think of a specific forum, but old school rock forums or an artist forum might be up your alley. I started w/ Blues Talk, tho I'm not sure it's around anymore.

Don't wink at me! I used to dig The Jacksons, Queen and Adam Ant till i discovered my Dads vast soul/RnB collection, which hey!, obviously included the guy you were fixated on but ultimately expanded my knowledge on black music as a whole. I never re-wrote anything, goalposts never moved in my conversation as far as i'm concerned, i picked up on a point in the conversation is all.

You can find crazy obsessed fans of any act anywhere, if you try hard enough to find. His fans are the worst? Another great MJ myth that you feel the need to propagate?

This is precisely the point. where are these threads he'd rather start?
Give him some time to test his broadband and get on wikipedia to look up the name of Chucks first album, describe some tracks, etc.

clock is ticking, but he'd rather argue the toss about MJ i'm sure.

One thing you have to accept about this forum is the average age of the participants.
And based on that, what was in their musical wheel-house during the formative years.

I did a post on this very issue because I was very curious about why so many of the posts seemed to center around Michael Jackson (and related family members), Madonna, Mariah Carey (for those a bit younger) and similar Pop artists.

For someone in their mid-30s (what the "age post" revealed as the average) if you go back approximately 20 years, that places them very close to the center of Michael/Madonna-mania (Off The Wall, Thriller, Madonna, Like A Virgin).

If you grew up in that time period and were not an adventurous listener (genre or time frame) then that's all you're going to be able to talk about with any degree of enthusiasm. And there's really nothing wrong with that. There's no requirement for folks to stretch their listening habits if they have no inclination to do so.

There's really no point in complaining about it.
You're either going to have to accept it or keep it moving.

I agree with brooksie's suggestion that you make your own posts about the artists you're interested in.

You may not get the hit-count of an MJ thread, but in time you'll attract those that share your particular tastes.

Funny that, being 39, i don't see Mike as a pop-artist, no matter what you or himself says or portrays himself as, my fave era off his is purely 70's with his bro's , always has been. But respect up to 'Thriller' in '82 and as a peformer til the Bad tour.

No dispute as a kid, he was purely a soulful act then. Ask Berry.

He does not deserve to share the same post with Madge or Mariah, unless i'm missing something or you're intentionally being disrespectful.
