What is the most covered song in history?

I read that Paul McCartney's "Yesterday" has over 3,000 covered versions. Is this the most covered song in history?

Yep. officially it is.

But somebody wrote 'Happy Birthday' (no, not Stevie's)

So unofficially, i'd say 'Happy Birthday'.

I hear "Summertime" more than I hear either of those other two.

I find that easy to believe. It was the most covered in 92 when En Vogue redid it and it still holds that honor. Cool.

Even with all those covers, I've only heard their version, Florence Ballard's, the Supremes', Marvin Gaye's and Donny Hathaway's.
