About a month ago I got Nouvelle Vague's album Bande A Part and I absolutely loved it!

I'm not usually a big fan of cover bands, but they do some great versions of the most random songs. I like that the covers don't really sound much like the originals

i was listening to their new album today!

some of their covers i really like, some of them fall into the very easy trap of sounding gimmicky, and some of them i'm just about, because i never heard the original.

from the new album, so far i like the gary numan song, the police song (i forget which one they did, but it wasn't an obvious choice), and "road to nowhere" by talking heads.

I'm definitely curious about the cover of the Police song since I usually do not like their music at all I'll probably love this reworking though

i think they're good at picking songs that have melodies that work for bossa remakes, though sometimes they miss. i'm not impressed with their version of "god save the queen" at all.

I like some of their re-makes specially "In a matter of speaking", which by the way it is sung by Camille one of my favorite french singers, I caught their live performance a few years ago..If you haven't, check their previous self titled CD "Nouvelle Vague"

A friend lent me the first Nouvelle Vague album which has a cover of my favorite Sisters of Mercy song "Marian" and I must admit they did a pretty good job with it. Supposedly the band covers the Banshees' "Israel" on another album. I have to hear that.

I think what they do works very well for some songs, not so good for others.


Nice, classy background music for a trendy bar, though.
