As a "ride or die" Whogurl my sentimental fav is Rog who's the most unique of the listed, but I'd have to go w/ Jagger overall from this list. He predates almost everybody listed from what I can see and all are extremely influeunced by him.
A list w/o Iggy Pop or Jimi Hendrix? Umm...is someone prejudiced against the killer Yanks? (The Boss..please) In terms of Yanks, these two are probably my favs, unless Janis can be a front man too!

No question.....

What about Rod Stewart? He's killer w/ the bands he's fronted.

Freddie.....with Axl Rose coming in a close second. |

Freddie Mercury will easily win this.
I vote for Freddie too. Other contenders in my opinion: Steven Tyler - Aerosmith Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden Phil Anselmo - Down (ex-Pantera) Morrissey - The Smiths This is not an exit

I keep on thinking about artists like James, Prince, Sly, Jimi, but they are not strictly front men of a band. The bands were recruited around them as solo artists (is that true in the case of Jimi and Sly too?).
So the ones listed already are definitely up there. Freddie Mercury and Mick Jagger, & Bono are the ones that jump out at me most. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

That guy who fronted Tin Machine.
Never heard from him again after the band broke up. WHAT IF THERE IS NO TOMORROW? THERE WASN'T ONE TODAY!

Great choice from the punk era is Strummer. Johnny Rotten and Johnny Thunders also crossed my mind.

I would have to say....
Mick Jagger Robert Plant Freddie Mercury It's hard to choose one, but these three definitely rocked as frontmen.

So the ones listed already are definitely up there. Freddie Mercury and Mick Jagger, & Bono are the ones that jump out at me most. Well even if the bands were recrited (by others like producers or managers, not the artist) around them, they are still bandleaders/frontmen. I don't think Sly or James had a recruited group around them, but that WAS the case for the JHE, tho not BoG. Jimi put together both Gypsys, Sun, and Rainbows and Band of Gypsys himself.

^^^ I DO wonder what the criteria is here because the list just includes very basic stereotypical front men. The 50s are ignored entirely, few Yanks, and no Blacks (how can Jimi NOT be considered?) Dunno about this list.
