Nice song 
'The Promise' is a very satisfying EW&F album.Some great songs on there."Never","All In The Way" and "Where Do We Go From Here" are my favorites.The only complaint is,there are perhaps too many slow songs,but if you get the Japanese import,you get two bonus tracks that are uptempo and extremely funky.It balances out the album much better. | |

Fans wanted the classic EWF sound instead of trying to sound contemporary or be something they weren't. Yeah,this album captures the classic EW&F sound.If I didn't know better,I would swear that the opening track "All In The Way" is an old outtake from 1977.It's got that classic 70s EW&F sound,with the horns and The Emotions on background vocals.It would have fit perfectly on 'I Am'.In fact,one song really is an outtake from that period: "Where Do We Go From Here" was recorded in 1978 during the 'I Am' sessions.If you listen closely,you can see that it features Philip's original vocals from 1978.He didn't even bother to record a new updated vocal.They updated the music slightly,but it still sounds like a late-70s track. | |

That's correct,and there's also the song "Diana" from the 'I Am' sessions too.I've always had this weird theory that EW&F have an unreleased album from 1978 that they never finished  I'm thinking that they started an album in 1978,but got sidetracked by a few other major projects...

"Betcha" is an awesome breezy groove with spherish guitar-fills, and man, when Philip takes it higher towards the end. I also remember getting chills when hearing "Where Do We Go From Here" for the first time, while reading in the linernotes about its history : Yeah, and "All In The Way" is a slammin' intro track 
A few more faves of mine from "The Promise" "Let Me Love You" "All About Love" (featuring The Emotions) The sudden break/bridge towards the end of the track is very cool, and just like "You And I", this is another example of 2 different EW&F-tracks with the same title, lol. "Suppose You Like Me" ( collaboration with the late Robert Brookins   )

yeah,"Where Do We Go From Here" gives me chills,too.It's interesting that they kept it in the vaults all those years!! It's a SUPERB track,one of their best.If they didn't wanna use it for 'I Am',they should have at least placed it on 'Faces',where it would have been a definite highlight.

More impressive were the slick interludes throughout the album that makes this a true EWF album. IMO as far as old school artists who have made albums this decade this is the best bar none. Yeah, "She Waits" s a deep cut, though i listened more to the first mix by Tommy Sims, from his "Peace & Love" album around 2000 :

I didn't wanna download their music cause I like EWF. I slid down the wall in the store with morning sickness but I got my damn cd. I sure wished I could have seen Maurice perform with them; I heard he was confined to a wheelchair most of the time. I did go to their concert and it was pretty good. You could hear those horns blaring out loud. Their album after this one is also good too. I believe it's called Illumination...I used to belong to a Maurice White's group and he would keep us updated on EWF projects, but I can't find that link for shit! My kid has the same birthday as him...LOL! Maurice was never a looker but I remember those tights he used to were back in the 70's onstage.
