Jimi Hendrix. I realize he had HUGE fame but he's largely unsung and underappreciated by the community that nurtured him.

I think that Teena Marie should have her own episode. Although she get a lot of love and respect, she's still in my opinion unappeciated in the world of music. Some people still think that Rick James wrote all of her material.
The Sylvers definitely deserve their own episode. Shalamar is this season but I think Dick Griffey and SOLAR Records deserve an entire episode. SOLAR impact on Black music in the 80s is often overlooked, if it wasn't for SOLAR there wouldn't be any LaFace, Flyte Tyme, Death Row, BET

Why not? He died way too young. Yes he is pretty well known compared to others but the guy died in a tragic plane crash just as his career was going to jump into super high gear. 4 members of the original barkays lineup perished with him that's why they would be unsung as well. Don't laugh at my funk

Nona Hendryx would be a good Unsung-not so sure about Labelle The Pointer Sisters People know the Pointer Sisters (sure they don't get full recognition). As for Labelle, most the mainstream ever knew of them was "Lady Marmalade" and only a few knew of their earlier incarnation as Patti LaBelle & the Bluebelles. I don't know if the Time is known all that much. lol

King Creole (ie August Darnell) and the Coconuts would be great...which is much of what The Time copied, at least in image.
If not Otis Redding, what about Booker T and the MGs along w/ Memphis Horns?

Just my thing, but I actually think Otis could have been as big or bigger than Hendrix, but could have managed to do so while maintaining BOTH fandoms. I think he's far too forgotten these days, even w/ the Stax revival. [Edited 6/8/09 21:19pm]
