The film only played to selected theaters, how can that be a bomb?

$667 average per screen. no more than 5 people in the movie at certain places. THAT is a bomb, doesn't matter how "selected" it is. "Selected" is a fancy word for "not important enough for a wide release because we don't believe in it".

What does this writer have against Mariah anyway? All he does is talk shit about her and put her down every time he has a chance. BTW, what would you expect from an indie film that barely got any distribution, virtually no publicity, and only played on 15 screens? It's one thing to talk about her box office numbers, but then to go on and talk crap about her marriage to Nick Cannon is just catty. mad

Yeah, that writer is HARSH.He seems to forget that 'Tennessee' is a small, independent film.It obviously wasn't gonna sell tickets like 'Star Wars',lol. He's predicting the end of Mariah's career but she has proven in the past that she can bounce back from a flop.Already, her role in the upcoming 'Precious' is getting alot of positive buzz. She'll be just fine.

From Perez Hilton:

Mariah Carey's new film, Tennessee, had a very limited release this weekend, opening in only 15 theaters.

The box office returns were PATHETIC, averaging about $667 per screen. That means, and we're sort of guesstimating here: If there were 5 shows a day, for 3 days, and about $10 a ticket…

That only about 5 or 6 people showed up to each screening.

Exactly no one EVER does the math with movies. If anyone would go to a movie boxscore, DONT look at the $$ a film made, look at the $$$ per screen, that is more important. Imagine a new cd came out but out of 10,000 stores it was only in 5, but it sold out in all 5, people would just see the total of units sold and think it was a bomb, EVERYONE (well a good %) have become hypnotized to numbers and soundscan and cspan and all that bullshit, which in this day and age of exclusive deals and straight to dvd, are meaningless numbers

But again the film has nothing to do with her at all, if it wasnt posted here would anyone even know this thing was out or playing, nope, and anyone who said they knew it was out is lieing plain and simple.

It's even worse than that. Given the number of times it played over the weekend on each screen, the average attendance per showing appears to be less than 10.

In fact, it could be as low as 5.

No good way to spin that.
