I just completed watching this. My tears are still flowing. I have to say that it was a great documentary. Not a lot of new information, but it was really cool to see her children getting interviewed. Maya seems so sweet.
I really loved seeing all of the old footage. TV-One really dug deep to find her television appearances, radio interviews and home movies and photos. My only criticism is that Stevie Wonder didn't participate in the documentary. I wonder if he was asked by TV-ONE to do something? It was sad, but it was nice to know that Minnie had a great marriage and homelife. That's pretty rare. I really want to find her version of "Respect" on youtube, that and "Adventures in Paradise", I think it's called.
I will say that from what I saw of next week's ep, Melba Moore seems straight up crazy. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

The 2nd airing just went off. I'm sure it will run like crazy (like they did the rest of the episodes). **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

That story was beautiful yet sad because you knew what was coming.

I just finished watching it. It really was a was a good documentary and a tear jerker. I'd been into her music since I was a toddler, but I never knew much about her so it was pretty informative for me. I was a bit surprised not to see Stevie Wonder or Quincy Jones though.
I'd also like to know if her husband remarried.

Why aren't they "buddies"? Why would Quincy be on-he doesn't seem to any connection to Minnie. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I'd also like to know if her husband remarried. I was digging her in elementary school but didn't know a whole lot about her outside of Loving you at the time. I was just listening to Memory Lane 45 friday. Gone to soon. I was in the 7th grade and heard the announcement on the radio. Unfortunately i don't have Direct TV. I will have to drive 75 miles to my mom's house to watch these new unsung episodes. Don't laugh at my funk

I remember being in the car w/my Grandfather when they announced she had passed away. It was on my birthday; July 12, 1979. I was 11 on the day she passed away. Put it this way- if Minnie Riperton had lived, Mariah Carey would be a stripper in the ATL somewhere!!!!!
Rest In Peace Minnie Riperton Rudolph.....

I've always loved Minnie Riperton's songs. I saw this edition tonight as well as the one on Donny Hathaway; both were unbelievable artists beyond many of their peer's capabilities and both left way to early.

This episode was far better than the one they did for Phyllis Hyman. I was very young then, but I vaguely remember her from around the time she died.
I wonder what accounts for her music's lack of popularity given Mariah Carey's subsequent huge fame? I was surprised that there's not been much reissued from her works (to date) cuz there's a major market for it.

All of Minnie's albums have been issued several times on cd. The key thing is that they haven't been issued in America. You have to purchase them as imports. Now, they have issued 2 compilations here in the US, the best being the Petals compilation that I listed earlier. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

^^^I saw your post above and I wondered about that statement on the show. Shame they didn't mention the 2 US comps of hers. Missed opportunity.

They also forgot to mention that "Loving You" has been used for a commercial and along with several of her songs, has been put on movie soundtracks. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

They probably didn't care about that as much. There was a little more that could have been said about her catalog for sure, though. I wish they would have, but it was still a good documentary. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I mentioned Quincy Jones because I assumed they were friends. They mentioned that they were recording in the same studio. Also, he once told a story about being disgusted by someone who slipped him a demo tape while he was attending her funeral.

Yes, Q mentioned that story in his autobiography, but he never mentioned them working together. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
