80s R&B slow jam of the day: "Tonight's The Night" by Ray Parker Jr. and Raydio (1980)

Herbie Hancock co-wrote this song and plays keyboards on it.I can't recall if this song ever became a single, but it really should have been.It still gets airplay on some Quiet Storm stations.Months later, there was a remake by a female artist.I have no idea who it was.

I was trying to decide if I should also order some of the Ray Parker Jr. solo CDs too. They have 'The Other Woman' (1982),'Woman Out Of Control' (1983) and 'Sex And The Single Man' (1985).I'm not too keen on those albums. His best solo album is 'After Dark' (1987) but it's not available on CD.

Yeah lol, Herbie released it himself on his "Magic Windows"-album, with female singer Vicki Randle on lead :

I keep telling people R&B is very popular in Japan

Jazz, R&B, and hip hop have a very loyal base there

AND they seem to remaster and reissue everything there lol
Japanese artists are marketed like nobody's business lol

Yeah,I'm thinking of getting 'The Other Woman'.That one had a few good tracks on it.'Woman Out Of Control' wasn't terrible, but I already have it on vinyl.I like the title track and "In The Heat Of The Night".'Sex And The Single Man' is forgettable.Nothing great on that album.

The only good thing about that album is the title lol The songs have that pop-ish "Ghostbusters"-type sound. The success of that song convinced him to go in that direction.I'm glad he came to his senses with the next album,'After Dark'.That album is not only a return to form,it's his finest solo album, imo.

Damn, you went down in the basement for these.I haven't heard Ray Parker,Jr name in a long time. "With Other Woman" was the jam back in the day,so was a couple of his slow jams.Ray was always senual and sexy, but always a cutie.
