Is there a cooler rock star than Bruce Springsteen? I seriously doubt it!
"After 'American Land,' which left the crowd completely ecstatic and begging for— no, demanding more, the occasional listener/Pinkpop visitor got two of the big hits: 'Glory Days' and 'Dancing in the Dark.' A fan named Liselot held up a sign referring to the music video of 'Dancing in the Dark', it read: 'The Dutch Couretney Cox'. She was pulled onstage during the encore, and dancing in the dark they did!
"Then the music stopped, but the unbelievable energy created in the synthesis of Bruce, the E Street Band, and the crowd resonated over the field. Bruce the Preacher, who had vowed during 'Working on a Dream' to build a House of Love, Hope, Faith, Joy and Sexual Healing with us, had done exactly that." He's such an awful hunky guy.
I prefer people like McCartney, Brian Jones, Lennon... they were not good performers but I think they had some style.

Prince could not even stand in Springsteen's shadow when it comes to having contact with their audiences.....don't get me wrong, I love Prince the performer but what I have seen (and heard) on television from Springsteen's show at the Pinkpop Festival here in the Netherlands last weekend, far exceeds anything Prince has done with his fans. Springsteen is very remarkable, it was a joy to watch.....too bad I wasn't there myself.

bruce has his cool points, but the coolest rock star in my book right now is trent reznor. not only has he basically given away his past two albums to his fans, not to mention free pro-quality live audio and video recordings, but in the past month he's managed to raise nearly a million dollars to help one of his fans get a heart transplant. THAT is freakin cool in my book.

that may be true and I agree that is cool, but his act on stage is rather depressing and soooo last century.....ah, the hurt!

agreed. Trent freakin rocks. Not to threadjack, but I attended an AMAZING seminar/talk given by Martin Atkins (drummer with Public Image Ltd, Killing Joke, Ministry, NIN - that's him in the Head Like A Hole video and playing on the song Wish, and leader/founder of the group Pigface that Trent did the song 'Suck' with). It was a great talk and I wrote a bit about it here - http://forum.nin.com/bb/r...?30,714853 |

Prince is not and never has been strictly a "rock star" as Militant implies because he never fits neatly into any one category. As far as fan relations, Bruce doesn't bother constructing a mystique that separates him from regular folks. The average guy persona is a lot more appealing to a wider range of people. The thing I like is that Bruce has been exactly this way for his entire 35-year career. He has never changed. One of my favorite stories is during the Darkness on the Edge of Town tour (1979 or so), two fans ran into Bruce at a movie theatre in Denver. Bruce was catching a movie in the early afternoon. The dudes invited Bruce to one's home for dinner and he came. The guys were young, and still lived at home. The fellow said he called his mom and said, "Mom, make an extra meatloaf because I'm bringing a friend home for dinner". Moms asked who, and didn't believe it when her son said it was the Boss. But it was! He had dinner with them. How cool is that? Anyway, I hope you visited the link in the first post and scrolled down to the picture of Bruce dancing with "The Dutch Courtney Cox". The look on Bruce's face tells you everything you need to know about the man!

I did look at the pics on the link. I remember him having a similar look on his face at the Super Bowl too. Clearly people are more than just a means to an end for him and it shows. I have never heard of him having a diva moment...has it ever happened? Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
